I promise I still love furniture. 🤣

However, when your specialty is designing hangar homes, FBOs, and pilot lounges, sometimes your professional development looks a little different.

This week, I'm in Las Vegas exploring the business aviation industry, from hangar technology and FBO innovations to the people and products shaping the future of aviation.

Because designing beautiful spaces is only part of what I do.

Understanding the aviation lifestyle and the people who live it? That's where the real magic happens.

And I couldn't be more excited to be here!

The aviation lifestyle doesn't end when the airplane lands. ✈️

This week, I'm heading into NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas, and I've been thinking about something that doesn't always get the spotlight in aviation.

The spaces we return to.

The hangar where friends gather on a Saturday afternoon.

The hangar home where everyday life and flying come together.

The pilot lounge where you can finally relax after a long flight.

And the FBO that welcomes pilots and passengers as they continue their journey.

These spaces are part of the aviation experience, too.

And as an interior designer specializing in the aviation lifestyle, I believe they deserve thoughtful planning that goes beyond simply looking beautiful.

Because good design should make life easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable.

This week's blog explores the spaces that shape aviation beyond the airplane and why I believe they're such an important part of the industry.

Beyond the Airplane: Designing the Spaces That Shape the Aviation Lifestyle

The aviation lifestyle extends far beyond the airplane. From hangar homes and personal hangars to pilot lounges and FBO interiors, the spaces surrounding aviation influence how pilots, passengers, and families experience life on the ground. A little sneak peek at what’s taking shape behind the scenes at Aeroview!

We're currently working on an FBO remodel, and I couldn't resist sharing a glimpse of one of the spaces we're bringing to life.

Introducing CROSSWINDS — our design direction for the main lobby. 🤎

Warm cognac seating, rich wood details, brass accents, and aviation photography are coming together to create a space that feels sophisticated, welcoming, and unmistakably connected to the aviation lifestyle.

One of my favorite things about designing aviation spaces is finding that balance between functionality and personality. An FBO lobby shouldn't just be somewhere you wait for your next flight. It should be somewhere you actually want to spend time.

And y'all, I cannot WAIT to see how the furniture transforms this space! 😍

This is just one of several spaces we're reimagining for this project, and each has its own personality.

Stay tuned. We're just getting started! 🛩️

Episode 20 | What Every Pilot Should Know Before Designing a Hangar Home You know your airplane's wingspan. You've thought about hangar dimensions, door clearances, and where you'll park your equipment. But have you considered what happens after you land and walk through your hangar? In this episode...

I'd rather start with your property and your life than hand you a beautiful floorplan that doesn't make sense for either one. ✈️

And I mean that.

There's something about standing on a piece of land and imagining what life could look like there.

Where the morning sun comes up. ☀️

Where the airplanes will taxi in.

Where you'll sit with your coffee.

Where your family will gather.

Where you'll walk through the door after a long day and finally feel like you're home.

Those are the things I want to understand BEFORE we start designing.

Because two families could buy identical lots at the same airpark and need two completely different homes.

One might dream of entertaining friends who fly in for the weekend.

Another might want a quiet retreat where they can step out of their hangar and into their home without missing a beat.

Neither is wrong.

That's what I love about designing for the aviation lifestyle. There isn't one perfect hangar home floorplan.

There's the one that makes sense for YOU.

I've been spending quite a bit of time lately walking properties, studying layouts, and thinking through how everything connects.

And every time, I'm reminded why I love starting here.

Before the pretty finishes. Before the furniture. Before we get carried away dreaming about that gorgeous kitchen. 😂

We have to understand the life we're designing for.

Because the goal isn't just to build something beautiful.

It's to build something that feels like it was always meant to be yours. 🤎✈️

If you're dreaming about building a hangar home, tell me: What's the ONE thing your future property absolutely has to have?

A little peek inside Blue Skies Ahead💙✈️

One of the pilot lounges we're designing for our airport FBO project has a personality all its own.

The vision? A space that feels comfortable, sophisticated, and connected to the world of aviation without feeling like a typical airport waiting room.

Rich cognac leather, beautiful shades of blue, warm wood tones, layered textures, and artwork that celebrates flight.

I love seeing all the individual design selections come together into one cohesive vision.

We're getting closer to installation, and I cannot WAIT to see these spaces come to life!

Here's a little illustrated concept of the direction we're bringing to Blue Skies Ahead. 💙

Your hangar home floorplan can look beautiful on paper and still drive you crazy once you live in it.

One of my favorite parts of designing floorplans is figuring out how to make everyday life easier.

I recently worked through a challenge on an aviation residence in Pecan Plantation where the garage-to-kitchen circulation wasn't nearly as convenient as I wanted it to be.

The floorplan worked. Technically.

But I kept thinking about those everyday moments. Coming home with groceries. Walking all the way around to reach the kitchen. Doing that over and over again.

So I kept working through it.

The solution? A concealed push-door through the pantry that created a much more convenient route without compromising the surrounding design.

It's a small detail that can make a huge difference.

And that's exactly why I don't believe a floorplan should simply look good. It should be designed around the way you actually live.

This week's blog covers 7 Hangar Home Floorplan Mistakes to Avoid Before You Build, including some decisions that are much easier to address before construction begins.

If you're planning a hangar home, this is one worth reading before your plans become permanent.

Just casually putting myself out there.

If you know someone buying an airpark lot, planning a hangar home, or dreaming up their future aviation residence…you know who to send them to. 😉

In the meantime, I'll just be over here walking properties and designing homes around the aviation lifestyle.
