Exactly 160 years after it was founded by the English innovator and industrial visionary Richard Esterbrook and established in Camden New Jersey, and nearly 50 years after it disappeared, the iconic Esterbrook pen brand is reborn. The brand that once produced over 200 million pens per year and became one of the biggest and most beloved pen makers in the world, is officially announcing the rebirth of America’s Original pen brand with a fresh rebrand that includes exciting new launches, packaging and fresh investments into marketing and social activities.
A look back. It’s not just a saying, but American history was literally written, drawn and created with Esterbrook pens. From US presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson who signed legislation with Esterbrook pens, to famous Disney artist Carl Banks who brought Donald Duck to life with the No 356 nib, to Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz who used No 914 for all his comic inkings, Esterbrook pens have been an integrated part of America’s politics and culture in the 19th and 20th century. Millions of families grew up with an Esterbrook pen on their desk or at home, before mismanagement and increasing competition led to the decline and disappearance of the brand in the late 1960s.
Fast forward and there’s no question that communication has changed, as texting and apps are the driving vehicles for communication. With so much attention fixed to digital, people are motivated for an escape. It’s this escape that’s the driving force for the rebirth of America’s Original, Esterbrook. There’s a renewed interest in old fashioned items and products with history and a meaning. Esterbrook pens are the tools to deliver that feeling of nostalgia, authenticity and creativity. Stories are to be written, or in our case: rewritten. Yes, we at Esterbrook want to rewrite history as we believe in the power of Re-.
Re- means to do it again and to repeat it. But at the same time it means looking back to the original state. This is exactly what the Esterbrook relaunch is built upon:
We are ready.Are you?
