Golden Well Sanctuary for Spirit + Nature
#harvest 🐝 Poor drones aren’t invited to this end of summer feast of golden rod, Japanese knot weed, purple and white aster nectar. They fill comb as the sun shines, but soon will slow way down for the long haul of VT winter. We’ll leave them most of their stores and ask each hive how much we can take so that they’ll remain with enough honey stored to get them through the winter.
Sometimes people ask, do you guys make honey? I always answer that our bees do. Gifts from the hive take a team effort of which the bees do 99% of the work. Here are a few bee facts that help us to not give into greed when we harvest:
🐝Honey bees must gather nectar from two million flowers to make one pound of honey.
🐝One bee has to fly about 90,000 miles – three times around the globe – to make one pound of honey.
🐝The average bee will make only 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime.
