No one guessed correctly.

Meet Cajun Flare.

This is actually its first time blooming for me in the fall and was super surprised!

Michael Sutton 2019

Will be interesting to see the yellow edge stand out more as the plant matures in the future.

Doing a little fall maintenance this afternoon. These are my seedlings planted last August. They have grown a lot and I figured since we are getting more rain this week I needed to get out there and do some cutting. I found two iris that were starting to rot due to the moisture we have received. This is the first time in a very long time that I have seen “water” rot. Usually we don’t get enough moisture to even keep the ground wet.
I will get a pitch fork and get those out of the ground a little more and that is all I can do. This late in the season I can’t transplant them. And since they are seedlings… if they can’t tolerate our climate, they shouldn’t be growing! 🤣🙌

Hint - it’s a Michael Sutton intro. Not telling which year. 🤣🙌

More of John and Lesley Painter’s iris.

1. Solar drama (love this one)
2. Golden Gaga (love this one and it really stands out in the field)
3. Caramel ‘N Chocolate (slower grower)
4. Spice trader (love but slow grower compared to golden Gaga)

Spice trader and Golden Gaga have a lot of similarities to their genealogy.

Which is your favorite out of these?

John and Lesley Painter (plicatas that I have)

Planet Hollywood- great grower
Jazzberry - slow grower
Chocolatte - horrible grower (planted in 2021 and it has only bloomed 1 time) and I moved and replanted it this summer with only 6 rhizomes. (Hence the horrible only photo I have) 🤣

Which one do you like? I honestly like the coloring of Jazzberry the best!

Looking at John Painter’s iris that he introduced and figured I needed to group them. So these are the “reds” that I have of his that have bloomed so far! All are very unique and I bet have some similar genes. (If I wanted to go down the rabbit hole of genealogy!) 🤣🙌

Best growers in my field out of these are (in order from best to worst)
1. Double chocolate
2. Mad world
3. Valentino
4. Cherokee blaze
5. Hearts on fire

My favorite though is Valentino! Which one is yours?

When you are digging just too hard 🤣😩 glad I have two shovels I like.
