⏱ Prep: 15 mins | 🔥 Cook: 0 mins | ❄️ Chill: 30 mins | ⏰ Total: 45 mins | 🍽 Servings: 12 eyeball halves
🛒 The Grocery List
• The Base: 6 large Eggs (hard-boiled, peeled, and sliced in half lengthwise—or buy Eggland's Best pre-boiled, peeled eggs for zero prep!)
• The Creamy Center: ¼ cup Hellmann's (or Best Foods) Real Mayonnaise + 1 tsp French's Classic Yellow Mustard + 1 tsp Mt. Olive Sweet Pickle Relish (or pickle juice) + Salt and black pepper to taste
• The Spooky Details: 12 round slices of Lindsay Canned Black Olives (for the irises) + Wilton Red Gel Food Coloring or Huy Fong Sriracha Hot Sauce (for the bloodshot veins)
👩🍳 The Process
1️⃣ Prep the Egg Whites: Slice the hard-boiled eggs in half lengthwise. Gently scoop the firm yellow yolks out and drop them into a medium mixing bowl. Arrange the empty egg white halves flat on a serving platter or deviled egg tray.
2️⃣ Mash the Yolks: Use a fork to thoroughly mash the cooked egg yolks until they are broken down into a fine, powdery crumb.
3️⃣ Whip the Creamy Filling: Add the Hellmann's Mayonnaise, French's Yellow Mustard, Mt. Olive pickle juice (if using), salt, and black pepper to the mashed yolks. Crucial Step: Stir and mash vigorously with your fork or a mini spatula until the mixture is completely smooth, creamy, and free of any dry yellow lumps!
4️⃣ Stuff & Smooth: Spoon the creamy yolk mixture back into the hollow center of each egg white (or use a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off to pipe it in quickly). Crucial Rule: Use the back of a spoon or a flat butter knife to smooth the top of the yellow filling as flat and rounded as possible so it perfectly mimics the shape of a smooth eyeball!
5️⃣ Add the Irises: Place one Lindsay Black Olive slice perfectly flat in the exact center of the yellow filling on every single egg.
6️⃣ Draw the Bloodshot Veins: Dip the very tip of a sharp wooden toothpick into the Wilton Red Gel Food Coloring (or Huy Fong Sriracha). Carefully draw thin, squiggly, jagged lines radiating from the outer white edges of the egg inward toward the black olive center to look like burst blood vessels.
7️⃣ Chill & Serve: Cover the platter loosely with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to let the creamy centers firm up, then serve perfectly chilled!
