It's Hot Take Tuesday 🌶️

Barn doors are overrated. Yep, I said it.

This particular barn door leads to a client's pantry, and it's one of the only modern barn doors I've ever liked 😅

The barn door trend is fun, but completely impractical for most spaces. I've seen bedrooms and even bathrooms with sliding barn style doors and it makes no sense! Not only do they provide very little privacy, they tend to damage your walls if they are anchored only at the top.

If you like barn doors, no problem! Use regular doors that latch for your private spaces, and leave the sliding doors for rooms that don't require privacy - like pantries, coat closets or laundry rooms!

What do you think? Are barn doors the perfect modern farmhouse touch, or are you over it?

Here's a random little peek into my own home for a change! This is mine and my husband's bedroom.

1. This first little arrangement is on my side of the bed. I am a huge fan of incorporating non-framed, 3D, and non-rectangular objects in a gallery style display!

2. This is a little hoya that I got from a dear friend, and she is growing slowly but surely above my night stand 🖤

3. I recently got a few of our wedding pictures printed, and some of my bouquet flowers framed, for the opposite bedroom wall. I have never framed pressed flowers on my own before, but I'm really liking how this turned out!

My next project in this room is our night stands, which need some tlc. Maybe I can post a before and after once I decide what to do with them 🤔 Anyone else have current home projects going on?

It's Hot Take Tuesday! 🌶️

Conversation pits are back, and I'm HERE for it. Look at these beautifully cozy examples! Pit seating creates such a intimate feeling, and functions equally well for both entertainers and homebodies. Changing the height of a space is a time-tested way to separate rooms without walls (just ask Frank Lloyd Wright!) but some think this trend is outdated.

What do you think - are you into conversation pits, or should they stay a thing of the past?

Check out this cabinet color 😍

This client is redoing a cozy rental space and she chose Sherwin Williams Pewter Green for the cabinetry - an excellent choice! I love the painted cabinet trend, and it's such a simple look to achieve. This particular color not only adds personality and charm to the space, it also looks darker and more green (less blue) depending on the lighting and time of day. Choosing a color that "shifts" like this is a great way to keep your space interesting over the long term!

Q: What's the cheapest way to make the biggest impact in a space?

A: Paint!

A fresh coat of paint took this bathroom from dark and cramped to light and clean. While quality paint will cost you a bit in the short term, the transformation is always well worth it.

People think of paint as permanent, but it's one of the easiest home elements to change! There's no lead time, it dries fast, and it's pretty much infinitely changeable - you can paint over an old color as many times as you like.

There's a whole rainbow of colors out there to choose from, which for some is exciting 🤩 For others, it's incredibly overwhelming. If that's you, send me a message! Curtain installation from last week!

This client needed full blackout curtains for their master bedroom. While some blackout panels fall short in terms of light blocking, these curtains from delivered! The new curtain rod is an industrial wraparound style that helps achieve true blackout on both sides of the window. You can expect to pay more per panel for true blackout curtains and blackout rods, but there are still plenty of affordable options out there - and it's so worth it when they help you get a good night's sleep!

It's been a while since I posted, but I'm back! Turns out it's hard to maintain an online presence, keep a job, and get married all at once 😅 Things have finally settled down a bit, and I'll be sharing more of my recent projects here.

Here's a peek at some event decorating I did in November for a client's baby shower. They chose the theme, and I took care of decor and disposables so the hostess could focus on guests. It turned out so cute! I love a good blue pumpkin, real or otherwise 👌🏻 As a nice bonus, the client was able to leave almost everything out and on display for Thanksgiving just a couple weeks later. Versatile decor is the best decor when it comes to events!

I love how this turned out! My favorite thing about this type of arrangement is you can continue to add things to the display, or even change frames out completely, without having to take everything down and start over. With three very different roommates living in the same apartment, that flexibility is a big deal!

This business has been a long time in the making.

I became interested in interior design as a tween, and eventually decided to pursue it in college. When I started classes at 18, my personal recipe for design success was a conglomeration of new items, thrifted objects, and DIY projects.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But the design industry seemed so posh and elite – thrifting furniture and sewing pillow covers were fun personal projects, not professional options. “Real” design looked like neatly styled showrooms and brand new furniture. I struggled with that concept. It felt fake, and often stifled my creativity.

Twelve years later, I still believe good design is rarely a room full of entirely new stuff.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I believe a stunning space is created over time by investing in great new pieces, making existing things work, and adding personality with thrifted, vintage, or handmade finds.

I believe you can have the best of both worlds when it comes to your space – beauty AND practicality, luxury AND comfort, quality AND personality.

I believe a price tag isn’t always a good indication of value.
