I just woke up from my brain surgery (LEFT retrosigmoid craniotomy for microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm) with Dr. Ali Reza Zomorodi. I was lucky enough to wake up spasm free after almost 4 years of being told you're stressed, drink less caffeine, sleep more, & finally have multiple neurologist tell me my MRIs didnt show compression. Being told to accept botox or muscle relaxers for the rest of my life.

I requested to see Dr Zomorodi anyway and Duke happily complied. He sent me for one last MRI (FIESTA) & sent me back imagining clearly showing a compression no one else had seen.

Today he told me the team seen the nerve immediately and it responded quickly with zero complications. Waking up spasm free (I was prepared not to & assumed the nerve would need heal time) was so overwhelming. I cried with gratitude.

4 years of avoiding pictures, eye strain at work or briefing meetings. 4 years of never knowing if the spasm would be so bad it would keep me up at night or if it would also include my nostril and lip.

I'm swollen, I'm tired, this head wrap hurts like a MF BUT I'm healed. Thank you Duke Team and Thank you GOD.

Open to any questions. As you can see Joseph Aton is thrilled as I was coming out of sedation lol

No picture frames this time around, but the hunt was still worth it. I came up empty on what I was looking for and somehow left with copper pots instead... which feels very on brand. 🤎

We switched Rico & Mabel to tilted bowls to help make eating easier for their little bulldog faces 🥹✨

The angle helps reduce strain on their necks and makes mealtime way more comfortable for Frenchies & English bulldogs.
