The best-looking yards in April got their start in October. πŸ‚

Here's the difference. One house leaves the beds alone until spring: dead stems flopping over, leaves packed into the corners, the edge disappearing under the grass. The other one gets a fall cleanup: perennials cut back, leaves cleared out of the beds, a sharp spade-cut edge and a fresh layer of mulch to carry it through the winter.

All winter long, the second house just looks cared for. And when spring comes, there's nothing to dig out of. The beds are already clean, the edges are already there, and the first warm weekend is for enjoying the yard, not catching up on it.

Want new beds out front next spring? The time to plan them is now. πŸ‚

In the fall, the summer growth is cut back and you can finally see the real shape of your yard: where the beds feel cramped, where the lawn runs right up to the foundation, where a corner just sits empty. It's the easiest time of year to picture what should go where.

That's what our landscape design visits are for. We walk the yard with you, lay out the new bed lines, and pick plants that fit your light and your space. Whatever can go in the ground this fall gets planted now, while the roots still grow, and the rest is ready to go the moment spring arrives. 🌿

Leaves piling up on the lawn? Before you reach for the rake and the bags, try the mower. πŸ‚

A thin layer of dry leaves is free food for your grass. Run the mower over them and they shred into small flakes that settle down between the blades, break down over the winter and feed the soil. Come spring, there's nothing left but a healthier lawn.

The catch is timing. Leaves that sit for weeks get wet, mat down and smother the grass underneath, and that's how you end up with bare, moldy patches in March. Mow them every week or so while they're still dry, and if they're too deep for the mower, it's time for a real cleanup.

Short on time this fall? We'll handle the leaves for you. 🍁 Book a fall cleanup at greenscapesva.com

Hosting Thanksgiving this year? The front yard is the first thing your guests see. πŸ¦ƒ

By mid-November most yards around Roanoke look tired: the last leaves matted on the lawn, bed edges gone soft, mulch faded from summer. None of it takes long to fix, but it's the difference between a house that looks ready for company and one that looks like it's waiting for spring.

One late-fall visit covers it. We clear the leaves off the lawn, beds and walkways, cut a clean edge on every bed, and put down fresh mulch so the front of the house looks finished going into the holidays. πŸ‚

November weeks go quickly, and the ones right before Thanksgiving go first. Tell us what the yard needs and we'll send a free estimate with a real price on it.

The cheapest curb appeal upgrade isn't a new plant. It's a clean edge. βœ‚οΈ

Picture two houses side by side: same lawn, same shrubs, same mulch. On one, the grass has crept over the sidewalk and the line along the driveway has gone soft. On the other, there's a sharp spade-cut edge along the walk, the driveway and every bed. The second one looks cared for, and most people can't even say why.

That line is the difference, and it's part of every fall visit we make: cut, trim, blow off the hard surfaces and edge everything that touches concrete, so the yard still looks sharp while the leaves come down. πŸ‚
