Same plant. Same mother. Different upbringing.

The one on the left got the good window. The one on the right got the corner. 😂 Both turned out fine, just different.

Angel wing begonias change color based on light. Bright, filtered light ⛅️ brings out the bronze-red leaves and pink spots. Lower light keeps them green with silver spots.🌱Harsh direct sun is too much.🥴

Some say it's about balance. Others say patience. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think it’s mostly about the window…you just have to find it.

Friday Favorite: Florida Ghost.

Long week at the hospital, and I'm only posting because routine keeps me upright. 🥱 New leaves come in whiteish and green up slowly. Good plant, it’s a philodendron so it doesn’t need much. Won’t find this at your local box store. ✌🏻

Got this picture this morning from my coworker, Big Nasty. Former volleyball player. Very tall. Also, for the record, very pretty. The name is not about her looks. 😂

She sent it with a note saying this is her favorite part of her patio. That's the coleus she picked up from me back in the spring, now taking over the whole pot.😊

That’s the thing about coleus. It can take a beating and still hang on, but put it in the right spot and it really shows out. Hers clearly found the right spot.

Coleus will 100% be on the 2027 plant list.

Out scouting the mums this weekend and found one that couldn't commit.

Half of this bloom is the deep red it's supposed to be. The other half decided to be yellow. Same flower, same stem, same pot.

This is called a sectorial chimera. 🤷🏼‍♀️ A few cells in the growing tip mutate, and everything that grows from them comes out a little different. In this case, half a flower. Mums are known for it, and a lot of the varieties we grow today started as a branch someone noticed doing something. I'm going to watch this one and see what happens.

Had to watch this one a few times… too funny. 🤪

Friday Favorite: Anthurium 😍

I'll admit it. For about two years, my anthuriums and I kinda had an understanding. They would grow one leaf, then drop one leaf, they were growing and I thought that was progress. 😂

Somewhere along the way something finally clicked. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Now these velvety leaves just keep on coming.

New leaves on this Philodendron tortum come up pink, and wound tightly…kinda like me. 🤪 Over a few days they start to loosen and stretch into long, narrow green fingers, and every leaf is as exciting to watch unfurl as the last. 🤗

Nobody warns you that the hardest part of running a nursery is picking which plants go on the truck. 🥴

I'll stand there for 20 minutes deciding which 4 plants out of 50 to pick…like I'm choosing who gets the kidney.🧐🤦🏼‍♀️

Every order, I briefly consider switching to retail to avoid the anxiety of pulling plants. 😂 Then I remember I already deal with the public enough at my real job. 🏥 At least the plants aren’t rude.

So I'll keep pulling, riddled with anxiety, overanalyzing and rejecting perfectly good plants. Then picking them again.

Friday Favorite: Ficus elastica 'Shivereana'😍

See the tree on the left? Two months ago it was about the same size as the little one on the right. Same plant, just a different coloration. That's how fast these go.

The Shivereana is the speckled, painted-looking version, with cream, lime, and green splashed across every leaf and a pink blush on the new growth. No two leaves look the same (my favorite kinda plant).

I've got 72 babies potted up that will be looking for new homes at some point. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Who doesn't want a cute little tree inside that's easy to grow? 🤔

If a tree indoors sounds like a stretch, go ahead and google it. Rubber plants are one of the most forgiving houseplants out there. Give them bright light, let them dry out a bit between waterings…

Friday Favorite: Alocasia Green Dragon Scale 🫨

Every week I try to get a decent photo of this one, and every week the camera loses. The pictures don't do it justice. In person, the leaves have this thick, almost reptile-like texture, with deep veins and a silvery-green shine that changes as you move…crazy pretty.

It's also easier to live with than it looks. It does fine at normal house temperatures, as long as it gets bright, indirect light and a little fertilizer now and then.

I have some cooking right now, and they should be ready soon. I'll post when they are.
