Pretty interesting look at the beginning days of road building!!!

Serious question!!!

Why are we seeing an influx of people doing shoddy work, or sealcoating asphalt that’s far beyond saving?

Is it lack of knowledge? Guys just grabbing every dollar they can get? Cheap customers?
And it’s not just the work itself. More and more we’re seeing:

🚫 Homemade or worn-out equipment that can’t apply product evenly or at the right rate
🚫 Spraying sealer over failed, alligatored pavement instead of telling the customer it needs repair or replacement
🚫 No PPE, no traffic control, and crews working in live lots with zero cones or signage
🚫 Mixing products wrong or skipping prep entirely just to get in and out

Sealer is not a fix for failed asphalt. Bad equipment and unsafe shortcuts don’t just hurt the customer. They hurt workers, and they hurt the reputation of every legit contractor out there.

So what’s driving it? Is it on the contractors, the customers, or both? And what can we do as an industry to fix it?

So we showed you the backpack spray " line striper " the other day . Here is the opposite extreme . A double gun 5500 , we have seen the 3500 in action and it seems like a good option. So let's hear from you guys on this version. First thing I noticed is the interesting gun arm height adjustment,, plus it appears to fold up for storage . Anyone tried one of these Titan sprayers out yet?

Anyone that has taken one of Nick Howell's classes knows exactly what he's talking about . He spends a good amount of time trying to make sure everyone knows the power of accurate job costing

Thoughts ...... honestly we can see the value in this for doing stencils ( minus the cart) lines you can't stripe with a full size machine because of access, as far as marketing it as a " striping" machine .. is that a stretch?

Ever felt like you just don't have any bandwidth left to grow your business ?

That is a major reason so many service business owners feel stuck even when things “look” fine.

Revenue’s steady. Jobs are booked out. Crews are busy. From the outside, it looks like things are going well. But you’re still the one that gets the call for every problem , no matter how big or small.

That’s the stall. It doesn’t show up as a slow season or a bad month — instead every day feels the same. Because the business can only get as big as what fits inside your schedule. Once you’re maxed out, growth doesn’t slow down gently. It just stops, quietly, while everything still looks busy.

A few symptoms owners miss because they’ve just become “normal”:

You’re the only one who can quote a job right. So every new job waits on you — which puts a hard ceiling on how many you can take at once.

Your schedule is reactive, not planned. You’re solving today’s fire instead of building next quarter, because there’s never a quiet moment to plan ahead.

Growth feels scary instead of exciting. More jobs used to mean more money. Now it just means more hours for you — so you find yourself turning work down instead of chasing it.

You’ve stopped delegating — even small stuff. Explaining it takes longer than doing it yourself, this time. But “this time” repeats every time, and nothing ever gets handed off for good.

None of this feels like a crisis in the moment. That’s exactly why it goes unnoticed — nothing’s actively breaking, so there’s no urgency to fix it. But every one of these symptoms is a lid on the business, keeping it exactly the size it is today.

A service business can’t grow past the owner’s bandwidth. It can only grow past what the owner is doing personally — and that only happens when the right people and the right processes take some of that weight off.

Thats where NTH Advisors comes in. We can develop a coaching plan that fits your business and develops leaders within the organization to take on the day to day tasks while freeing up your time to focus on growth!
