Today I’m out in the garden weeding the rose beds. It’s a little windy and all that’s in the air is the fragrance of the roses. While I’m weeding under the rose I can hear the leaves of the candle stick plant. I look up and notice the candle stick plant is starting to show some yellow from a flower bud! It usually blooms from late summer to fall, perfect timing. The candle stick plant is not planted in ground, still in a pot. This is the way I figure out what I would love to see in the flower beds as we are creating our new garden. Under the rose is bare, there was a dwarf white zinnia bush but it’s gone now. I’m also looking at these areas and planning on what to add. It’s been a great day outdoors, weather is lovely. I’ve had my water and now I’m headed back out. See yall soon! πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

Croton, a tropical plant found in many varieties. Shown here is the classic with its red, yellow big green vein leaves. Today I squeezed croton plants on each side of the lemon grass inside the window box. I had already filled with mums a few weeks ago and also mixed in some variegated Ivy with the existing Asparagus ferns and black Medusa potato vine. Originally I was going to just fill with more mums but something told me to go with the croton plant because of the colors. The croton is hardy 9-11 but I’m not chancing it, we can still get a good freeze. I left them in the nursery container and with the help of the other plants fullness I covered up the pot. Once temperatures drop to 50 degrees and below at night I’ll bring the croton plants indoors and enjoy their beautiful vibrant colors. The more sun the more color! In our gardening zone 9 the morning autumn sun will do with around 4/6 hours only so the leaves won’t crunch and burn. This window sits on the east side of the house it’s perfect! I hope the croton leaves color up more with time, Ambrose brought them home from a local big box store where they had just received them. I had so much fun putting this planting together! πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š
