Zeterre Landscape Architecture

Zeterre Landscape Architecture Landscape Architects creating sumptuous gardens. Curators of fine antiques/furnishings which blur the lines between indoor&out! Soon floral creations!

Zeterre Landscape Architecture was founded with a focus on creating unique outdoor ambiance and innovative design for exclusive homes. Always site specific and architecturally appropriate, each garden that Zeterre creates is an expression of the homeowner, the architecture, and the interiors of the building. Our goal is to make all of these important elements flow together seamlessly with the garden.

A pair of loungers angled toward afternoon light. Adirondack chairs gathered inside a ring of Buxus, close enough that voices never need to rise. The architecture here is classical and quiet, but the intent is personal. We design for how a place makes you feel, not how it photographs.

Cypress Ridge was designed to be exciting and calm, modern and classic all at once. You can feel that tension in a single planting bed where a massive agave rosette sits among fine-textured grasses, volcanic rock, and a hazy valley view dropping away behind them.

We design gardens that reveal themselves differently depending on where you stand. This courtyard holds a stepped limestone fountain, a twig bench, ferns pressing in from every side, and the particular stillness that happens when geometry sits inside something living and untamed.

One day. That's all it took to shift this early 1900s Victorian office from industrial pipes and bare walls to something that actually feels like a garden you want to work inside. Welcome to Zeterre's new studio off Divisadero. Come say hi and stay awhile.

A lot of clients look at a steep slope and see a problem. We see an opportunity to create outdoor rooms stacked at different elevations, each offering a completely distinct view. On this San Francisco project, six terraced levels turn under half an acre into a garden that feels nearly three times its size.

In classical Zen composition, stone and water do the work that flowers do elsewhere. Every surface here is chosen for what it withholds. The gravel courtyard, the linear rill with its river-stone bed, the sculptural root form anchoring the axis. Restraint is not absence. It is knowledge deciding what not to plant.

Coastal planting is humbling. Salt air, hard winds, and a plant palette that keeps shrinking until you're left with what actually survives. What we planted here five years ago has settled in beautifully... fragrant, fruiting, and looking like it grew up with the house rather than arriving after it.

Most people see succulents and think low-maintenance. We see a color argument. Jade-green Aeonium rosettes against blue Senecio, variegated cultivars catching late light, Echeveria clustered so densely they read as ground cover. On Belvedere Island, we helped source plant material for a garden built to be lived in, not just looked at.

We recently did a video shoot at this property where we go into more detail about the plantings and what it all took. More to come!

We started 3D rendering in 2007, back when most landscape architects hadn't touched it yet. Keeping it in-house means we can shape a design the way a sculptor chisels form, refining it as new opportunities reveal themselves in the model.

We place sculptural objects in a garden the way we place plants, with intention. In this showcase house at Pacific Heights, white metal forms spiral above massed Salvia and clipped boxwood, breaking the planting into distinct rooms of color and texture. They give your eye a place to pause, and they give every bloom around them space to be seen.
