🌿 MID-AUGUST PLANT PSA: THE BUGS AREN’T INVITED.
If your houseplants have been living their best lives outside all summer, now is the time to start thinking about bringing them back in.
Not bringing them in today — just starting the process.
Because waiting until the first cold night and panic-hauling 47 plants into the house is how you accidentally invite every spider mite, aphid, mealybug and random creepy-crawly in Illinois to spend the winter with you. 😂
Start your bug check now:
🔎 Flip leaves over and check the undersides
🔎 Look closely at stems and new growth
🔎 Check the soil surface
🔎 Look underneath pots and around drainage holes
🔎 Watch for webbing, sticky residue, white fluff, bumps or anything moving that shouldn’t be
🔎 Isolate and treat anything suspicious BEFORE it joins your indoor collection
Starting now gives you time to find problems, treat them and check again without turning it into an emergency operation later.
Over the next several weeks, I’ll be sharing more about:
🌿 When Illinois plants actually need to come inside
🐛 How to debug them
✂️ What to cut back
🪴 What can be overwintered
🌴 What to do with elephant ears, cannas and bananas
💡 How to help houseplants adjust to indoor light again
Because buying the plant is the fun part.
Keeping the damn thing alive is where Slightly Rooted comes in. 😂🌿
