➡️Franken tool Thursday

No one is out here making specialized tools for us so we create our own.

This week's franken tool is the boat seat swivel. Often taken for granted but massively useful, these spinner thingys make patching, painting etc much easier.

Seat swivel + old water bed board + scrap pieces of aluminum square tubing = no cost spinner thingys. Hooray for the boat seat swivel! 🥳 (Doing these each week is making me think about how much crap I have sitting around to source lol is this normal?)

Real talk, a boat seat swivel holds up to an inebriated person carelessly floating on an overinflated puddle 😵‍💫🚣‍♀️ (iykyk) and not once in its life has the person said, 🗣"I should probably do maintenance on my seat swivel."
Our statues just sit there and maintain displaced pressure. In short, they do the job great!

And, I'm sure most people probably have a boat seat laying around the property somewhere...right?😬 Not just my neck of the woods?
New swivels do work smoother because they're not bent or rusted. Tip: cabelas credit card➡️we all buy fuel, food etc➡️earns points➡️after black Friday deals➡️get new swivel free ✔️
An old bar stool swivel assembly (cousin to boat seat swivel) stripped down, also works well. I included one of those in the pictures too. These don't seem to hold as much weight. Works great on 75lb 🪿 but I broke one with a 200lb 🐻. In its defense, it was well worn.

Drop a picture in the comments of that franken tool you have and don't want to live without 👇

Behind the scenes: demolding a concrete 6" turtle 🐢

Every time I pour this one, I intentionally look back and recall my early statuary pouring days. I had picked this mold up well used. It didn't look much different than it does today. But, I'm not sure how many hatchings it has left.

Franken Tool Thursday 🛠🧪.

Hmm...maybe Friday would have fit better?🤔

Meet Sir Franken-Scraper! 🧟‍♂️✨
(Also known as Bob)
So one thing about pouring concrete statuary is that nobody is out here manufacturing specialized tools just for us.
Other than molds is there anything that we haven't adapted (serious question)? Thank you mold makers!
We become part chemist, part mad scientist, and professional backyard engineering improvisers.
All the blobs and drips while pouring; at least the ones that don't land in your shoe 🙄, end up on the floor, dry and become a miniature geology diorama. This is why Sir Franken Scraper was pieced together. A broken snow shovel handle and an old, rusty drywall knife. (I have no idea why I keep this stuff until an idea hits...usually after it's been in the way for a few years 🤦‍♀️. He may be ugly and finagled together, but he gets the job done!
I can’t be the only one out here making my own Franken-tool line or using something that works way better at a new job than its intended purpose. Someone has a butter knife that's done everything but touch butter, a box fan with a furnace filter strapped to it or put doors on a truck using a transmission jack? (Also used to install a cast iron kitchen sink)
Maybe we should start a Franken-Tool Thursday or something 🤷‍♀️. Winter is coming and a lot of us will need something to laugh about while we're confined. Drop a picture in the comments of that one Franken-tool that you have and can't live without! 🛠️👇
