Does your fence need replacing—or just a little attention? 🧐

Many fences can last 20+ years with proper installation and care, depending on the material and conditions. Age alone doesn’t mean it’s time to start over!

A few loose boards or a gate that needs adjusting may be repairable. But widespread rot, leaning posts, recurring loose sections, or a fence that no longer keeps your kids and pets secure can signal it’s time for a replacement.

The foundation matters. Quality materials, properly set posts, and careful installation help your fence stand strong for years to come.

Unsure where yours stands? Empire Fence can help you decide whether a repair or replacement makes sense. 🏡

Why two fence quotes can be THOUSANDS of dollars apart 👇

Same yard. Same footage. Same style of fence.

So why is one quote thousands more?

Here are 7 things you might actually be comparing:

1. Materials- The fences may look similar on paper, but material quality, thickness, grade and manufacturer can be completely different.

2. Installation method- How deep are the posts? How are they set? What’s being used for concrete? The stuff you CAN’T see when the fence is finished matters.

3. Warranties-What’s covered? For how long? And is it a manufacturer warranty, workmanship warranty—or both?

4. Local customer reviews- A proven track record has value. Look at what local homeowners are saying about the company after the job is finished.

5. The company behind the quote-How long have they been around? Will they still be there if you need something 5 years from now?

6. Timeline- One contractor might be able to start next week. Another might be booked out. There can be a reason for that difference.

7. Labor- Experienced, properly trained installers cost more than inexperienced labor—and installation quality can determine how long that fence lasts.

Don’t automatically choose the highest quote.
Don’t automatically choose the lowest either.

Make sure you understand what you’re actually getting for your money.

Here are 7 things homeowners should know BEFORE their fence installation begins👇

1. Know where your property lines and easements are- Your fence contractor isn’t necessarily a surveyor. (But we do find the pins ourselves using an electronic pin finder). If there’s any question about the property line, figure it out before installation.

2. Utilities need to be marked- 811 should be contacted before digging, but private lines like sprinklers, invisible dog fences and some electrical lines may NOT be marked.

3. Tell your contractor about anything underground- Sprinkler systems, drain tile, landscape lighting, buried wires—if you know it’s there, say something.

4. Think about your gates BEFORE installation- Where do you bring the mower through? Garbage cans? Trailer? Future shed or hot tub? Gate placement and width matter.

5. Your yard is going to get disturbed- Digging holes, moving materials and hauling out dirt means there may be some lawn cleanup afterward.

6. Keep pets and kids away from the work area đŸ¶- There will be open holes, tools, materials and equipment around during construction.

7. Ask what YOU need to do before the crew arrives- Every contractor is different. Moving furniture, clearing landscaping, unlocking gates or removing decorations ahead of time can make installation much smoother.

A little preparation before fence day can prevent a LOT of headaches during it đŸ’ȘđŸŒ
