Don’t let this fall pass without planting a tree!
🍂

Fall is the best time to plant a tree! Here’s why...
1- Planting a tree in the fall actually reduces the stress on the tree! A tree planted in the spring has to work to establish roots while also growing new foliage. That is a heavy load on a newly planted tree. A tree planted in the fall is no longer growing which means it can focus solely on establishing a healthy root system. Devoting all available resources to roots creates a more resilient tree in the future as opposed to a tree planted during the growing season that has to split energy between growth in the canopy and establishing roots.
2- A tree planted in the fall isn’t requiring as much water! As the days begin to get cooler and the hours of intense sunlight get shorter your tree won’t dry out as quickly. You will still need to keep a close eye on the moisture in your soil as your tree gets established but being able to water less often is a major perk!
3- The soil is actually warmer in the fall than it is in the spring, making it easier for your tree to root into its new home. Even better is the fact that it’s easier to dig your hole! Soil temperatures are what tell your tree when it’s time to grow more roots and when it’s time to be dormant. The soil is warm enough in the fall that your tree will be stimulated to put energy into rooting right away. A tree planted in early spring will stay dormant longer because the soil is still too cold to signal the tree to root in.
4- Your tree will be under less insect load in the fall as all of the nasty bugs that have been munching foliage all summer start to decrease.
5- Summer sun and hot temperatures can cause newly planted trees to really struggle. Trees planted in spring or summer will be more susceptible to the stress the heat brings. A tree planted in the fall gets to adjust to being planted in more mild weather and gets to slowly acclimate as temperatures warm up in the spring and summer.
Come see us and let’s get some beautiful trees growing in your yard for you to enjoy next year and for decades to come!
