A critical safety lesson every gardener needs to know!
While admiring a large, airy cluster of tiny white flowers with pale pink accents in the garden, we are breaking down a dangerous look-alike to Queen Anne’s lace (wild carrot): poison hemlock.
Before you ever consume a wild root, remember these key differences:
β€’ Wild Carrot (Queen Anne’s Lace): Features hairy stems and a distinct, sweet carrot scent.
β€’ Poison Hemlock: Features smooth stems with purple blotches and a foul, musty smell.

You don't have to put every single seed in the ground at once! Today at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, we are practicing the art of pacing our crops. We are planting bunching onions (scallions) into well-draining soil for a steady harvest from early spring through fall, while sowing a small handful of beets and saving the rest of the packet for spring. Nature moves at its own pace, and we are learning to do the same.

Are you a "plant everything at once" gardener, or do you prefer to space your planting out? Let's chat in the comments! πŸ‘‡

Break away from orange carrot stereotypes and discover the beauty of growing deep red heirloom carrots!
In this clip, Dotty gets hands-on at Greener Acres planting two unique, vibrant varieties:
β€’ Kyoto Red (Japanese Kintoki): A beautifully sweet heirloom.
β€’ Silky Red: Known for its exceptional texture and slender 12-to-18-inch roots.
Watch as we prep the beds for the cooling weatherβ€”which carrots absolutely loveβ€”and talk about what to expect from these colorful, flavor-packed underground treasures. πŸ‚

Don’t look downβ€”look up! When a carrot bolts, it redirects all its energy into producing flowers and seeds, transforming the root into a tough, woody structure that closely resembles its wild relative, Queen Anne’s lace. It keeps its true identity a secret until you pull it up! Nature loves a plot twist.

Friendly reminder for my Zone 7A family: right now through October and mid-November is peak garlic planting time! πŸ‚πŸ§… Today at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, we are utilizing the waning moon phase to get our fresh cloves tucked into the soil for optimal root growth.
But before we could even start, we discovered that those mysterious green sprouts in the bed aren’t grass or weeds at allβ€”they are tough volunteer garlic cloves from last year making a comeback!
Have you started your fall garlic planting yet, or are you waiting for October? Let's swap timelines in the comments! πŸŒ™πŸ‘‡

Don't wait until spring if your onion sets are giving you the sign! Today at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, we are talking about why our white, sweet yellow, and Vidalia onions are headed into the ground next month instead of waiting for the spring thaw (those outer layers are getting a bit spongy, so it's time!). We are also utilizing the waning moon phase for optimal root growth and unboxing a wonderful surprise gift: Walla Walla sweet onion seeds!
Have you ever tried planting onions by the moon phases? Let's swap stories in the comments! πŸŒ™πŸ‘‡

Welcome back to Greener Acres Garden Oasis! πŸ‘‹ Today, we have a fascinating story to share from the garlic bed. We've got volunteer crops popping up all over the place like they pay rent, completely unprompted.
Leaving a few cloves behind on purpose last season turned out to be the ultimate hands-off garden hack! If you are growing in USDA Zone 7A or just love a good story of nature taking the lead, come see how we work with what we've got. πŸ‚πŸ§„
What is the most surprising volunteer plant that has ever shown up uninvited in your garden beds? Let me know in the comments! πŸ‘‡

If you've ever wondered why one fall crop completely takes off while its neighbor refuses to wake up, you are not alone!
Right now at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, our beets are completely winning the race despite the lingering summer heat holding back our cabbage. It's a beautiful mystery, but it comes down to a simple rule: every single vegetable has its own germination requirements. We can't hold our entire garden bed to the exact same timeline.
Have your beets ever completely outpaced your other fall crops? Let's swap garden stories in the comments! πŸ‘‡

There is nothing quite like the feeling of leaving a garden bed in perfect peace after a long day's work. Tonight at Greener Acres Garden Oasis, we are wrapping up our night-planting session under the soft glow of the waning moon. Tucking our root vegetables safely into the warm, tender earth is the ultimate reminder that the best things take time and grow from deep inside.
Take a deep breath and come experience a little bit of pure backyard tranquility with us.
