"How much does a 16x16 paver weigh?" is one of the most common questions we get, so here is the math.

Travertine, marble and limestone all sit close to 160 lb per cubic foot. That makes a 1-1/4" paver about 17 lb per square foot and a 2" paver about 27 lb per square foot.

16x16: ~30 lb at 1-1/4", ~47 lb at 2"
24x24: ~67 lb / ~107 lb
24x48: ~133 lb / ~213 lb
36x36: ~150 lb (1-1/4" only)

A full pallet lands between 2,800 and 3,200 lb regardless of size, which is why it ships by LTL freight on a liftgate truck and needs a hard, level spot at delivery.

Yes, natural stone comes in 36x36.

Nine square feet in a single piece, about 150 lb, twenty to a pallet. Three-foot squares with a tight joint make a patio read as one slab β€” which is exactly why people ask for them.

Three things to know first: they are cut at 1-1/4" only, so they belong on a mortar bed over a slab; every piece is a two-person lift; and they hate curves. On a straight-edged layout they cut less than almost any other size β€” a 12x18 patio takes 24 pieces and no saw.

Which paver size should you use? It depends on four things: how big the area is, whether the edges are straight or curved, who is setting the stone, and the look you want.

We put every natural stone paver size we cut β€” 6x12 through 36x36, plus French pattern β€” into one guide: square feet per piece, pieces per pallet, weight at 1-1/4" and 2", and which size suits a pool deck, patio, walkway or driveway.

Quick version: 16x24 for a freeform pool deck, 24x24 for a big patio, French pattern if you want the classic travertine look with the least waste around curves.

Limestone or Travertine? Here's the honest difference. πŸ€”

Travertine has natural texture and pitting β€” a classic, organic look, and generally the wider selection. Limestone is more uniform and consistent in color and surface β€” a cleaner, more modern look, especially in larger formats.

Neither is "better" β€” it comes down to the look you're going for.

Looking for something a little different from classic travertine? Limestone might be it. πŸͺ¨

Softer, more uniform tones give it a cleaner, more architectural look β€” a favorite for modern pool decks and patios. Cool underfoot, good traction in a brushed or tumbled finish, and available in several distinct color options: Myra, Lymra, and Sandy Beige are three of our most popular.

Choosing pool coping stones for a new deck β€” or replacing the coping on an old one?

Our complete buyer's guide covers travertine vs marble vs limestone, bullnose vs eased edge, 1-1/4" vs 2" thickness, how much you need, and what it costs. And if your pool already has coping, remodel coping is a drop-face piece that goes on over the existing beam β€” a pool coping replacement with no demolition.

Bullnose or eased edge pool coping?

It's the first decision on a stone pool deck and the one people second-guess most.

Bullnose is the rounded edge β€” safest for kids, forgiving on curves, and the only profile cut in the narrow 4x9 and 4x12 sizes that follow a tight radius.

Eased edge (what most people call "square edge") is the crisp modern profile for rectangular and geometric pools, and it looks best in dense marble.

We've just rebuilt the guide with a straight pros-and-cons table, and you can now shop each profile on its own page instead of filtering through everything.

Marble vs travertine pavers β€” which one for your pool deck?

Short version: marble is denser, cuts crisper, and comes in a much wider color range (true whites, deep blue-grays). Travertine is porous, which is exactly why it stays cooler under bare feet in full sun.

That one physical difference decides most projects. If someone in your house will cross the deck barefoot at 3pm in August, weight it heavily. If the deck is shaded or the climate is mild, pick on looks.

We compared the two across pavers, pool deck, pool coping, cost, freeze-thaw and maintenance β€” with our real prices for both.

Marble pavers cost less than you think

How much do marble pavers cost? Less than most people assume β€” and the reason is one most guides miss.

Marble now comes in two price tiers. The classic Turkish marbles (Ice White, Ibiza White, Corsica Cream, Diane Royal, Tundra Grey, Ocean Blue) are priced flat at $10.99 per square foot regardless of color or finish β€” so within that tier, the color you want costs nothing extra. And a newer range starting at $4.93 per square foot puts marble pavers below the typical travertine price.

We wrote the whole thing up with real pallet math: by size, thickness, finish, and what pool coping adds on top.
