The plants are both my work and my break.

Last week, that looked like plant shopping with a client, taking herbs over to our new neighbors, and watering our fall garden with my daughter and the little girl down the street.

We’re still settling into this house, but sharing what we grow and watching the girls take turns watering is helping it feel more like home.

A garden worth daydreaming in.

Berdi’s garden is full of lush growth, with so much already underway. This visit was about making room for the next season and planting cool-season vegetables and flowers among all that abundance.

I’ve loved helping her garden grow and seeing how much it has to give with each new season.

Apparently, I’m going to need more than one.

Planting a fall garden makes it very hard to choose. A little pink here, a little yellow there, and suddenly the vegetables have some very pretty company.

Here’s to a season of growing food and bringing home every color.

A fall kitchen garden, planted together.

We filled these beds with cool season veggies and flowers, bringing the design we’d been planning to life.

She’s learned so much through research and trying things in her garden, and it was lovely to build on that together. I’m looking forward to helping her care for it through the season and seeing what makes it to the kitchen.

From fall garden plans to a cart full of plants. 🌱

Plant shopping together at Enchanted Gardens | Richmond for a client’s kitchen garden install. She has learned so much through research, trial and error, and some chaos gardening along the way.

I designed her fall garden to build on that experience, and it was fun choosing the plants together. Next up: planting day and supporting her as she brings this season’s garden to life. 💚

A little planting, a lot of rain, and a new kitchen garden taking shape.

I planted between heavy downpours, rolled with the weather, and honestly had some fun along the way!

There’s so much to look forward to as this family’s garden grows, from checking on new leaves to bringing those first harvests to the table.

Thankful for the trust families place in me to help bring their garden hopes to life. 💚

It’s autumn again, and the nursery visits come with a little extra anticipation.

Plant shopping at Enchanted Forest Richmond for client gardens, imagining what these little plants will become and the meals they’ll find their way into.

By the time we shop together, we’ve talked through their space, what they’d enjoy growing, and created a garden design. Then comes the fun of choosing plants and watching those plans take shape.

Feeling grateful for a full Fall of helping families get growing. 💚

What does your garden need right now?

For Jeannie’s check-in, I took a close look at how everything was growing, made a few timely adjustments, and refreshed the beds with Nature's Way leaf mold compost from Nelson Water Gardens and MicroLife.

Gardens keep changing with the season. Regular support helps Jeannie know what to focus on next while still having plenty of time to enjoy her garden.

Berdi’s garden is thriving through this brutal weather, producing butterfly pea flowers, watermelons, okra, and herbs galore.

The beds were already topped with beautiful compost, and during today’s garden check-in I added azomite to replenish trace minerals in the soil.

I love that this garden carries the care of so many people. Several local small businesses have helped nurture it alongside Berdi, and now her family and neighbors get to share in its beauty and bounty. A beautiful reminder of how a garden can nourish a whole community.

Edie wanted her backyard garden to feel lush, colorful, and welcoming without becoming overly manicured or difficult to maintain.

We worked with her existing hibiscus and banana trees, then added layers of foliage, flowers, and texture to create a more cohesive garden that will continue filling in over time.

From consultation and design to plant sourcing and installation, every choice was made with her space, preferences, and capacity for ongoing care in mind.

A beautiful beginning for this garden.
