This project at the YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County is a perfect example of why proper concrete preparation matters.

Before we could install the new epoxy flake floor system, we first had to completely remove the old coating that had been installed improperly and failed. From there, we mechanically ground and profiled the concrete to create the proper surface for the new system to bond to.

Another commercial epoxy flooring project we’re incredibly proud to have been a part of! 🙌

We recently completed two commercial epoxy flake floor systems in the locker rooms at the YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County in Ithaca, NY.

These floors were properly prepared and installed to provide a durable, easy-to-maintain, long-lasting flooring system that can stand up to the heavy foot traffic and everyday use that comes with a busy facility like the YMCA.

New cove base wasn’t part of the project budget, so the YMCA will be installing vinyl cove base around the perimeter to clean up the edges and give both locker rooms a finished appearance.

We also had some great company on this project!

Jai Westcott from Meldrim’s Paint Center was there with us to help out, see the installation process firsthand, and learn more about what goes into a professional epoxy flooring system. We were also joined by Lily, Meldrim’s Paint Center’s social media guru, who came out to capture some of the project and see what we do behind the scenes.

Proper prep is everything when it comes to epoxy flooring.

At the YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County, we first had to remove an older flake floor system that had been installed improperly and ultimately failed.

Before any new coating could go down, the existing system had to be removed and the concrete mechanically ground and profiled to create the proper surface for adhesion.

This is one of the biggest differences between a floor that simply looks good when it’s finished and a floor system that is actually built to last.

We don’t believe in covering up problems or taking shortcuts. We take the time to properly prepare the concrete so the new epoxy flake system has the best possible foundation from day one.

🔥 WATCH THAT WOOD COME BACK TO LIFE! 🔥

This is Outlast Q8 Log Oil going onto the siding of the cabin we’ve been working on — and this is where the transformation really starts to show.

Q8 is a deep-penetrating oil that soaks into the wood, bringing out the natural grain and giving the siding that rich, refreshed appearance while providing long-term protection.

We’re also incorporating NBS “No Bug Stuff” into the Q8 for an added layer of protection against wood-loving insects and to help repel mosquitoes.

The difference is already incredible, and we still have a lot more siding to go.

🔥 CABIN UPDATE! 🔥

We’re making some serious progress on this one, and it’s already starting to come together beautifully.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, but seeing the transformation take shape is exactly why we love these projects. Every step is about restoring the character of this cabin while giving the wood the protection it needs for years to come.

CABIN RESTORATION — PROGRESS UPDATE!

These before-and-after photos show just how much this beautiful cabin is already changing — and we’re not finished yet!

We’re working our way around the entire property, restoring and protecting the exterior wood while bringing back the deep, rich appearance this home deserves.

For this project, we’re using Outlast Q8 Log Oil on the wood siding, Benjamin Moore Woodluxe Solid Stain on the fascia and trim, and Old Masters Ascend Exterior Polyurethane on the soffits and ceilings. We’ve also incorporated added insect protection into the Q8 to help protect the wood from the pests that love it just as much as we do.

The difference between the weathered areas and the completed sections is already incredible. There’s still more work ahead, but this one is coming together beautifully.
