The work we do here at W+A is of tremendous value to our clients and the local communities they serve, and SOME Conway is a great example of that client base.

One of the benefits of touring our projects while under construction is to give our architects an opportunity to see how a set of drawings translates into a building. Thanks to our Project Manager, Troy Rog-Urman, AIA, for giving us an excellent tour of the SOME Conway Center that is scheduled to open in 2018.

Wiencek+Associates was very proud to be part of this renovation, which started way back in 2011 at N Street Village. We were at the opening ceremony for stage 1 completion including the new Bethany Women's Center.

Our clients were so excited to see this new spaces open, with new desks, tables, chairs, and other things they'll sit in and use everyday. It looks great and all seemed pleased to have a refreshed work space, to help them serve thousands more homeless and low-income women in coming years.

It is with personal sadness but the warmest of wishes that we announce the retirement of Ann Cornell, Contract Administrator at Wiencek + Associates and one of our most beloved staff members. For over 13 years, Ann has played an important and integral role in fulfilling our construction administrative responsibilities by working with all of our consultants, owners and general contractors to process, track and manager information. Ann was instrumental in the development of our strong processes for managing our CA services. She has a great, open and friendly relationship with everyone she comes into contact with, which is all the more reasons she will be dearly missed. But we are grateful for her loyalty and hard work over the years and appreciate her desire to retire in order to spend time with her first grandchild and her family. Ann is more than just a co-worker. She is a friend. Her daily presence will be sorely missed so we wish her all the best.

Congratulations to British-Ghanaian architect David Adjaye, who will be knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to public architecture. Wiencek + Associates Architects + Planners is very proud that in collaborations with Adjaye, we created two new iconic libraries in under-served DC neighborhoods - the Francis A. Gregory Neighborhood Library and the William O. Lockridge Neighborhood Library.

"What I'm doing is about the public, it's about people's lives," says Adjaye. "For me, the whole point of architecture is to elevate the human experience."

Adjaye is best known for his design for the The National Museum of African and American History and Culture in Washington, DC.
