Grade Level: Pre K—12 Through an engaging and exciting presentation, Dr. Andrei Pidkivka take students for fascinating journey through many ethnic traditions and musical styles such as classic, jazz and folk. He introduce the students to exotic world instruments of Eastern Europe, Asia, and Latin America. This educational journey explores the captivating sounds of flute and violin in connection with their cultural origins, geographic and historical settings. Such presentation ignites and develops curiosity for music in students through participation with clapping, singing, dancing and listening. This interactive musical journey allows students to experience the music diversity, and serves as an excellent curriculum enhancement for teachers and students studying music, world music, instruments, and different musical styles. Each program is individually tailored to target Elementary, Middle, and High School students and work closely with each school’s curriculum. OBJECTIVES OF PERFORMANCE: Students are introduced to the world of music through folk and classical instruments, and connections between traditional folk and classical music styles. Additionally, students learn about Eastern European, Asian, Northern and Latin American cultures, their traditions and history, music and geography through a fun musical experience. SUMMARY OF THE PROGRAM: An engaging and exciting presentation of exotic world instruments from the most familiar to those students have never seen performed, such as Sopilka and Tylynka family from Ukraine (recorder-like), Ocarina, bag-pipes and jaw harps from Romania and Hungary, Fujara – strangest, biggest and most majestic overtone flute from Slovakia, pan-flutes from Latin America, dizi and xun- flutes from China and Taiwan and glories sound of violin family. Gerdan performers tell stories of each instrument and how they are made. They demonstrate folk dance steps and students are learning dance polka, arkan, kolomyjka dance (circle dance) with live music accompaniment.
