Protect the Legacy of Alice to Protect Small Businesses

The Senate Judiciary IP Subcommittee is doing 3 days of faux hearing right now as a prelude to passing patent legislation basically written by the pharmaceutical companies. It would overturn unanimous Supreme Court rulings, raise drug prices and hurt small American businesses like this one: https://morningconsult.com/opinions/protect-the-legacy-of-alice-to-protect-small-businesses/

The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property is holding hearings on the state of patent eligibility in the United States, also known as Section 101 in U.S. patent law. I urge our elected representatives to preserve the hard-won consensus we have achieved.

Happy 6th anniversary to Reset Public Affairs, the scrappy little firm I opened on tax day, 2013. Lisa Camooso Miller joined shortly thereafter, and we have enjoyed the opportunity to work with some of the best clients and companies in America. Agencies in our field often celebrate anniversaries with big parties, but since it’s April 15, we’re going to drop an envelope to the IRS, send this FB post, and try to avoid having a case of the Monday’s. 😁
Thanks for all of your support over these six great years! Here’s to a few more. 🥂

People like USPTO Director Andre Iancu say those of us who point out there are a few very real issues needing to be addressed in our patent system are the actual problem. Age Old Debate Over Drug Prices

This is dead on accurate. While conservatives are correct to protect intellectual property rights, there is nothing conservative about rent seeking. When IP is abused solely for rent seeking and not to promote innovation at all, consumers experience real harm and the true value of the IP must be questioned.

Farm victim of ‘patent troll’ lawsuit

Couldn't tell you anything about Russian collusion, but I CAN SAY that the collusion between big pharma, companies that make their profits by licensing old technology, not inventing new ones, and the head of the US Patent and Trademark Office is making BS like this below easier to get away with, not harder:

http://www.capitalpress.com/Business/20180912/farm-victim-of-patent-troll-lawsuit

The vaguely threatening letter over alleged patent infringement that Azure Farms received last year didn’t make much of an impression on David Stelzer.Stelzer, the company’s founder and CEO, consulted with his information technology employees, who assumed the letter was a scam.“

Are Drug Companies Giving Us the Straight Dope on High Drug Prices? – Nevada News and Views

Chuck Muth of Citizen Outreach points out the great hidden secret about big drug companies: not a single one of them invented/discovered ANY of their own foundational research! EVERY drug approved by FDA since 2010 came first from underlying research by public universities, NIH, or government grants. Those big profits drug co's need to 'invent' the next cure to a disease? I'm in the middle of this stuff every day and these kind of numbers make even my eyes bug out of my head! $57 million for state and federal lobbying. $64 million to kill an initiative in ONE STATE requiring state agencies to pay no more for drugs than does the federal Department of Veterans Affairs!
