AU Project Move-Out

Project Move-Out aims to significantly reduce the waste AU students leave behind at the end of the school year. Last May, students threw out more than 160,000 pounds of waste to landfill during the 2 weeks of move-out. Rather than sending a bulk of this usable waste to landfill, Project Move-Out will collect, donate, and resell items such as clothes, lamps, electronics, school supplies, and unopened food & toiletry items. When students move-in during the fall, items will be resold to students at a lower price and encourage new students to reduce and reuse. We have completed our collection for Project Move-Out 2015! We want to send the biggest thanks to all the staff, contractors, and students who were involved. Even with all that work of separating and recovering, it's amazing how much is still left behind that housekeeping has to trash. The reality is that there is a short period before we have to turn over these halls for summer conferences. This is a typical image during move-out of all the trash that accumulates in a floor lounge. Now imagine the number of lounges * number of res halls on campus. Luckily, thanks to Facilities Management recycling staff and Project Move-Out student volunteers, we helped move a lot of what Housekeeping would've had to remove from the halls during their busiest time of the year for donation/resell. #projectmoveout
