Board of Supervisors Green Light Spring Hill Station Developments

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors green-lights rezoning for West Spring Hill Station and North Spring Hill Station – two mixed-use developments in Tysons that we designed with The Georgelas Group.

"The projects include eight buildings, four parks, a new connection to the Dulles Toll Road and a sports deck that will include entertainment atop a building.
Elizabeth Baker, a senior land use planner who is representing the developer, told the county board that the companion developments move forward the vision to turn Tysons into a city."

This afternoon, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved rezoning for two developments near the Spring Hill Metro station in Tysons. Georgelas LLC's two mixed-use projects -- West Spring Hill Station and North Spring Hill Station -- would redevelop car dealerships along the north side of

The Wharf's second phase remains full speed ahead, despite the pandemic - Washington Business Journal

"It helps, too, that the project is so large contractors can keep their distance, Hoffman said. With three office buildings, a Pendry hotel, two parking garages and 350 apartments and condos to work on, Hoffman believes there is more than enough space to keep everyone six feet apart."

Happy to see construction proceeding safely on our project at The Wharf with SHoP Architects. Read more here: https://www.wdgarch.com/portfolio/projects/the-wharf-parcels-6-7

Though a global pandemic has upended the economy, one of the District's largest construction projects is still moving ahead. Here's why the backers of the second phase of The Wharf remain confident in the expansion of the massive waterfront effort.

Greystar is scheduled to present its plans for 343 student housing units in College Park later this month, just after it acquired another property in the city.

We're happy to see another award for Midtown Center! Congratulations to landscape architect SCAPE!

A spot of good news in uncertain times: SCAPE’s work on Midtown Center Plaza in Washington, DC won a Merit Award in ASLA NY's 2020 Design Awards.

Inspired by the radiating geometry of the original L’Enfant plan for DC, Midtown Center Plaza introduces a 15,000 square foot forested plaza and cross-block connection into the dense environment of central city. Sculptural forms, angular planting beds, and custom black locust benches developed with Tri-Lox are shaped by the diagonals; a sunken fountain creates a cooling and immersive entrance along L Street. The design was developed for Carr Properties in collaboration with SHOP Architects and WDG Architecture. All photos by Ty Cole.

It was a fun and exhilarating build at GINGERTOWN last week! Our architects designed and built the Ring Pop Jewelry Shop in the traditional Venetian style. Despite some structural hurdles and time constraint, the final product reflected our original intent, and we all went home with a sugar rush and smiles on our faces.

Tomorrow is the last day to view Gingertown - Venice in the lobby at 1500 K St NW. Thanks to David M. Schwarz Architects for another great charity event!

Canstruction is a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger. In DC, Canstruction is organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation as a creative design-build competition that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank through donations of canned goods. This year's theme, the 1980s, is in honor of the CAFB celebrating 40 years of service to the DC area. Teams from architecture and design firms from Washington, DC use their skills to build sculptures out of cans of food. The nutritious shelf-stable food is donated to the CAFB for distribution to those in need after the event.

Help the WDG Canstruction team reach their fundraising goal to compete at #CanstructionDC in November, and "Go Go Gadget, Stop Hunger!" Click here to donate, and get your company logo on the flyer: http://giving.capitalareafoodbank.org/team/Kh5oxe

Canstruction is an international charity competition where architects, engineers, contractors, and students they mentor compete to design and build giant sculptures made entirely from full cans of food. At the close of the competition, all of the food is donated to local food banks for distribution to pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, the elderly, and daycare centers.

This year’s theme is The 1980’s, and our team has developed a design concept based on the cartoon Inspector Gadget. Our sculpture will be a bust of his head and upper torso, featuring his iconic propeller hat!

WDG Canstruction wants you on our team! Help us to reach our goal of $4,000 for Canstruction DC 2019 - so together we can “Go Go Gadget, STOP HUNGER!"

What would you do with $10,000 - $500,000 working capital to increase profits of your architecture company? Take care of inventory purchases, staffing, expansions, renovations, equipment, merchandise, marketing & advertising strategy, you name it, (or, if you are just in a pinch and need a quick loan - say, for example, tax arrears, etc), I would love to help you out – without all the hoops the banks require you to jump though. It’s pretty simple to quality: if your business has been in operation for 4-12 months+ and has grossed more than $100,000 in the last fiscal year, you will qualify for a loan! That simple.
