We're trying to change how people view island art. Less museum stuff and more "in your room" type stuff.

The Pacific Hale Co. Story

The idea and concept of The Pacific Hale Co. was developed in a small country town called Keokea on the island of Maui. The owner, Alaka'i was born and raised on the island of Oahu and after years of traveling, he decided to settle down and raise a family on Maui. Being raised in a very culturally rooted family, he learned early on, the many struggles between holding onto your culture while at the same time trying to move with the times. Many people who come from indigenous culture can relate to this dilemma. It's seems like the older generations are forever stuck in their ways and the youth are forced to choose between staying anchored to the traditions of the past or let it go completely and attempt to move forward with the rest of the world.

In an attempt the break the cycle of fear and cultural stagnation, Alaka'i decided to create the change he wanted for his lahui (people). After surrounding himself with amazingly talented and knowledgeable friends he developed a concept of using his business and technology smarts and combine them with the gift of his friends to create something amazing. This was the birth of the Pacific Hale Co. Our goal is to keep pushing the boundaries of Pacific island art and to change the ways we interacting with it. With canvas being the highest selling medium of modern art, it was only natural that we would use it as well. We can take the beautiful designs of Tapa and add to it, the strength and durability of the frame + canvas material. The colors on the canvas preserves longer and and are more vibrant. We can now take the beauty of Polynesian tattoos and display it in a home so that it makes a statement or starts a conversation about who we are and where we come from.

The Pacific Hale Co. ohana knows where they come from. No longer will we let our cultures be the anchor holding us back but instead it will the sail that move and guides our waa (canoe) into the future.
