These are the beautiful faces of the people (missing a few) that keep the wheels turning and make this place magical. When I first walked into Kave in October 2020, that was it. Fast forward 4 years later, and I'm forever grateful for this chosen family and a place I call home ❤️ And we always wear Falastin with pride!

It’s the 1st of October, and we’re days away from marking ONE YEAR to the horrors in Gaza. Horrors we continue to witness on a daily basis - destruction, death, and the despicable treatment of our people. A people who had dreams, families, homes, ambitions, happiness, and a love for life.⁣
⁣
And now we witness the same horrors happening to the people of Lebanon. ⁣
⁣
I’m finding it very hard to have faith in humanity these days. While many around the world have FINALLY woken up and spoken up, the rest of the world needs to do better. There is no more space or tolerance for ignorance. Human to human, what do you see? ⁣
⁣
So, I’m here with a reminder. A reminder that we are not going anywhere. Falastin is in our blood, roots, land, and ancestors. ⁣

⁣Growing up, warak rolling has always been a therapeutic release. I'd sit down with my teta and mom and lose track of time. Rolling one warak at a time and preserving this age-old tradition. ⁣

⁣We’re all very much in need of releasing our emotions these days, and it’s time for another warak rolling session. ⁣

Being in my parents' garden always gives me a sense of grounding and appreciation.⁣
⁣
I always talk to you about the seasonality of our beautiful food, and being connected to the land gives me a sense of belonging I don't find in my daily life.⁣
⁣
As I snack on our garden peaches that are in full bloom during the summer, I find myself appreciating the growth of the blossoming fall and winter trees. The olives, lemon, and pomelo are starting to appear, and we're on the brink of a new season.⁣
⁣
As I reflect on the closing of my own season, I can't wait for what's to come. The opening of my first permanent location and more exciting surprises along the way.

- for being my unofficial lawyer, Mr. Fix it, family doctor and car expert ⁣

- for getting me used to hearing طول عمرك حلوة after saying حليت⁣

- for making the best Falastini مخلل and زيتون⁣

- for being the definition of a kind, loving, and supporting baba⁣

Today and every day, I'm proud to be called بنت Ziad and a descendant of the Bishouty family.⁣

My heart breaks for all the fathers that continue to pull their children out of the rubbles of Gaza. Never take family for granted. Love you, pops! ❤️

Earlier in November, I was featured on the cover of City Times by Khaleej Times. It was an incredibly proud moment for me, and when we went to get the newspaper, my nephew Nabil said “that’s my Hayay on the cover!” ⁣❤️
⁣
While it was a proud moment, I didn’t get to fully take it in. To enjoy this recognition, achievement, and support. I smiled, felt giddy for a moment, grabbed all the copies of the newspaper at Spinneys, and came back home. Because, how could I celebrate a moment like this with everything going on? ⁣
⁣
But, I’m taking a moment to enjoy this and to share this accomplishment with you. All of you who have continued to support me throughout the years. And I stand by every single word I said and will continue to say. ⁣

I got up feeling the need to write my thoughts. Maybe as a coping mechanism? Maybe as a means to clear the chaos that currently exists in my mind? ⁣
⁣
So, I’m sharing it with you here as a reminder. Not for it to fade away in 24 hours. But as a constant reminder. This is our collective feeling, and it won’t go away. ⁣
