querkraft

professor querkraft.
for the past two years, jakob dunkl, gerd erhartt and peter sapp joined the faculty of architecture at CTU prague as visiting professors, working closely with students across four semesters of intensive studio teaching.
in the third and fourth semester, students were challenged to transform the former opel factory in aspern into a future-ready urban destination. each semester launched with a site visit to vienna, workshops, expert talks, exchanges and - of course - lunch with the team of querkraft. the goal was to rethink the existing structure and turn it into a vibrant meeting place that brings new life to the former industrial site.
each semester ended with a short, fun and not too serious movie clip to present the projects. this is a short glimpse into the results.

behind the green curtain.
for the new chemistry and technology building at CVUT prague, we designed a vibrant campus hub where students, researchers and staff can connect, collaborate and occasionally spark a reaction. it is home to chemistry. and not only the kind taught in the labs. at its heart, a light-filled atrium brings people together, creating space for spontaneous encounters, shared ideas and the occasional breakthrough. wrapped in a lush green second skin, the building improves the microclimate while revealing just enough of what is happening inside. because the best chemistry often starts long before the experiment. a place where science meets community, and where connections are formed in more ways than one.

we want to invite you to take a closer look: a fence repurposed as a balcony railing, windows with eyelashes, a rooftop room hidden behind mirrors. sometimes, it’s the precision of craftsmanship. sometimes, it’s a clever idea. either way, it’s the details that add that special something.

green canyon.
this is our design for an office building in prague. it explores a new way of working in the dense city centre with two independent building volumes responding to the busy road junction, creating a strong spatial and functional dialogue. green buffer zones improve the microclimate and together with glazed pergolas, protect against noise. flexible floor plans and open office spaces provide adaptable, high-quality working environments, while public functions on the ground floor activate the urban space.
transforming the existing road into a green high-line, reconnecting both sides of the site through a lush public landscape would be our long-term vision for a future climate-resilient city.
