Sophia and David have been featured in Quatre Mains: Creative Duos in Architecture & Interior Design — a book exploring the rare alchemy of true creative partnership in this field.

Sophia's interior practice is grounded in memory, texture and how a space should feel. David's architecture is grounded in restraint, clarity and regional context. Together, that balance of the poetic and the practical is what shapes every project at Design by WBL.

Thank you to the team behind Quatre Mains for including us in this study of creative partnership. Copies of Quatre Mains are still available - we've included a link in our bio to purchase.

A little moment in the studio, back in 2020.

Immersing ourselves and our imagination in other places was as much an internal process for the team as it was about building inspiration for our clients.

Corner House was recently awarded the 2026 South Australia Chapter Award for Residential Architecture – Houses (Alterations and Additions) in the 2026 National Architecture Awards.

The owner - a radiologist and a quilter - returned to a site she'd lived on before, choosing restraint over expansion. Conceived as a quiet yet decisive evolution of a much-loved Victorian villa, the project resists outward expansion in favour of selective, carefully judged interventions. Retaining the heritage fabric to the street and much of the core interior, the primary architectural gesture is to open the house vertically and internally, bringing light, air and generosity into a tightly constrained footprint.

A closer look at the materials for CM House. Our material palettes don't always start where you'd expect. Alterations and additions always along the way. A branch. A piece of bark. The grain in a fence post.

“From the outset, we could tell this was his opportunity to unleash,” says Sophia. “We know and love the building so much and had a great fondness for it, so we had a sense of responsibility to make sure we did something amazing.”

Grateful to Michael Harry and Belle Magazine for their beautiful feature on Aptos.

Our studio space often changes like the light does throughout the day - alongside the way we work, the ideas we're trying out, the materials on the table, the different ways we think through a problem.

Congratulations to Justin James and the whole team at Restaurant Aptos, nominated for Best New Restaurant by Gourmet Traveller.

It was a joy to work on this project. And it's even more of a joy to see this space come to life - so well deserved, team.
