What got you into the veggie patch? Was it a person or perhaps it was an idea? Were you gently lead or given a little shove? I remember, since I can, my Nonna’s Fremantle veggie patch. It felt rambling and expansive. I remember the burn of the hot sandy soil on my feet and making my way to the shade of the tomatoes to seek refuge. The way they smelt has never left me. Gosh, the excitement of the harvest, all the colours and shapes, each their own currency. Checking the eggs every morning, and then checking again if there were none….surprise, eggs! It’s around this time of the year that my excitement grows. And while there seems to be less things I can get so purely, childlike-ly excited about, this is the one that grows. Thanks Nonna. 🍅 Make Sugo & Plant Garlic 🧄 - https://mailchi.mp/littleveggiepatchco/pest-and-disease-help-chart-3186628 Sugo Day is circled on the calendar in thick red marker — the tomatoes are ripe, the bottles lined up, and the biggest pot we own is ready for action. But here’s the pickle: who makes the guest list? Getting the mix of the sauce crew right is almost as important as the ingredients itself. You need that right balance of sweet and salty, as well as those daring to wear all white to the spluttery-est of days. Too many cooks? Never. Too many opinions? Maybe.
