For today's Monday myth, let's talk looks!

We have heard “Native trees don't look as good as exotic trees.”

But have you seen an Australian native in full flower? Aussie trees are definitely different to the trees that were brought here from other parts of the world, but they are just as stunning in their own way.

From spectacular flowering gums and bottlebrushes to colourful wattles, banksias and grevilleas, Australian plants offer an incredible range of flowers, foliage, shapes and sizes.

Plus, there's something extra special about planting a resilient tree that belongs in our landscape.

Need a hedge but don't want to sacrifice all your garden space?

Meet ‘Thin Fence’ (aka Viburnum odoratissimum) a narrow-growing Viburnum developed for screening where space is limited.

Thin Fence is Ideal for creating a lush living screen without taking up too much garden space. Responds well to pruning, making it easy to keep at the size and shape you want, and provides year-round greenery and privacy. Clusters of small, fragrant white flowers add an extra seasonal feature. As a bonus, the flowers can provide resources for pollinators, while the dense foliage offers shelter.

Our 1.5L pots are ready to plant out and are currently available for $25 each (although if you want to purchase a few, come and chat and we might be able to do you a deal... 👀)

Shrubs to bring all the birds to your yard.

Shrubs provide shelter and nesting habitat for birds who help keep garden pests naturally balanced by feeding on insects and caterpillars. Birds also help disperse seeds and, for some species, contribute to pollination as they move between flowers. By planting a variety of native trees and shrubs, we can create gardens that support birds while contributing to a healthier, more diverse ecosystem.

Many shrubs are also suitable for hedges and privacy screens (both formal and informally styled) as well as creating layers and depth in your landscaping. So if you would like to add bird-attracting shrubs to your garden, here is our shortlist:

• Green Dream
• Thin Fence
• Dense Fense
• Lilly Pillys
• Bottlebrush
• Tea Trees
• Cinnamon Myrtle
• Space Saver

Feel free to send us a dm or give us a call if you want assistance choosing which tree will best suit your location.

🏴‍☠️ Arrr! Land(scape) lubbers, X marks the spot with Syzygium australe 'Hinterland Gold' if you want a fast, vibrant hedge that doubles as a privacy screen.

This native treasure features stunning multi-toned foliage with beautiful golden-copper new growth that matures into a lush deeper green. It is quite dense and quick growing in the right conditions so is perfect for screening out the neighbours. Plus, local birds love dropping by for the fluffy white flowers and edible pink berries.

This species loves full sun to part shade, well-draining soil, and a light prune once or twice a year to keep it looking lush. Hinterland Gold can reach up to 4m tall, but is easy to shape and trim to your desired height.

If you want to bury (plant) this treasure in your garden, Hinterland Gold is available in 1.5L for $27.50 and 3L for $44.
