Behind the Scenes: What It Takes to Run Our Market Stall
Running a market stall might look simple from the outside, but a lot of heart, hard work, and preparation go on behind the scenes before we ever open for the day!
Here is a quick look at what goes into bringing our stall to life for you:
Managing the Daily Budget: Preparing enough cash float for change, paying stall fees, and budgeting for the day—sometimes balancing essentials means deciding whether we can even buy lunch or a coffee from a fellow vendor!
Setup & Equipment Costs: Investing in and maintaining everything needed to run the stall—from gazebos, tables, chairs, display props, containers, banners, and t-shirts, to business cards, registration/maintenance for our trailer, and essential first-aid kits.
Crafting & Materials: Sourcing raw materials like craft supplies, yarn for hand-knitted toys, and soil for potting plant cuttings—while re-using materials and garden off-cuts whenever possible to keep things sustainable.
Office & Admin Work: Designing, printing, and laminating plant ID tags, printing cookbooks, and keeping up with stationery supplies like paper, ink, and staples.
Pre-Market Prep & Packing: Potting cuttings, hand-knitting products, carefully bagging items so they stay pristine, and loading up the trailer.
Meal Prep to Save Costs: Packing our own lunch and drinks ahead of time on Fridays so we can keep overhead expenses down.
Post-Market Care: Unpacking, cleaning, and washing table covers, t-shirts, and equipment as soon as we get home so everything is ready for the next event.
Planning & Booking: Securing and scheduling stall spots at upcoming markets 1 to 2 weeks in advance.
Support Staff Coordination: Ensuring we have a support worker available for the day—without a support worker, our market day simply can't happen!
Thank you for supporting our small business—it means the world to us!
