These two specie orchids are part of the dendrobium family. Their origin is SE Asia, India, Burma, SW Thailand etc. They are not unsimilar to the anosmum orchid, flowering a few weeks later. It would seem the lituiflorum is not common in many collections. In my case it took many years and a new loctaion for this orchid to flower.

Many growers would be enjoying this native orchid of Australia and New Guinea in flower at this moment. It is pleasing to know that there is still some of beautiful orchid still growing in the wild.

What a pleasure to walk around the property this time of the year. 15 or so amosmums in flower, the aroma takes your breath away.

Grahame Freer was a member of the Tully and District Orchid Society Inc. A winner of numerous awards at club level with his extensive collection and expertise. His orchid collection was wiped out by Yasi, that and age retiring to Townsville. A terrible shame as he imported many rare orchids from the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
