Inside of Twin Creek House, Hillview stone and blackbutt timber form a robust palette selected for its texture, tactility and ability to weather gracefully over time. A deliberate inversion of conventional material application sees timber expressed externally while stone becomes a dominant presence within the interior. Together with a series of fireplaces, exposed structural elements and carefully detailed joinery, the palette celebrates craftsmanship over refinement and richness through texture rather than excess.

Under Construction - Port Douglas

Jerry and Camilla were recently up in Port Douglas to visit one of our projects, which is getting closer to completion.

The palette in this residence is restrained, with a focus on texture and creating shadow play with daylight that moves through the house - from the rendered walls to the screening and glossy tiles.

Connection to landscape was another important design driver in this tropical home. We have taken advantage of neighbouring tropical reserves and ensured all rooms have a vibrant, green outlook, which we will see more of as the house settles into its surrounds. Looking forward to seeing it all come together before the end of the year.

The render meets the real thing. The Footy is taking shape on site, in material, geometry and craft.

The curved timber shroud wraps the house, softening the wild coastal edge without shutting it out, and making sheltered places to sit between inside and out. Nothing more than it needs to be.

When designing Sorrento Cottage with our clients Annie & Richard, we wanted to bring more north light into the kitchen, so we carved out a small northern courtyard (see plan).

As well as lifting the kitchen, it brings natural light to the study and creates a moment of pause before you reach the front door. One small move, doing a few jobs.

There was some healthy back and forth with Annie as we worked through the idea together, and Richard suggested it become a raked gravel garden, drawing on his time living and working in Japan.

Looking forward to shooting this one in summer.

From Jerry,

Construction of the Hillplains House spanned the GFC with a healthy break in between. We worked initially with our trusted team from MRB Constructions to lock up stage and eventually completed the home with local trades.

It was a pleasure to not have to document the entire project before we commenced. Wouldn’t recommend this approach to a client, however resolving interiors along the way worked here.

Nothing was straight forward, it felt like a continuous series of independent projects that eventually came together.

The project was a testing ground of sorts. Freedom to explore and make a few mistakes along the way. It was a deeply enriching journey.

Fresh Dave clocked up many hours out of the office demonstrating his skills and laid a few timber blocks, you can always rely on the son of a carpenter.

Lovely concrete benches and a bath made with love by close friend Deb Boyd.

The back up generator was the first bit of infrastructure on site and the construction team used it from day one.

Later on the genny went on to back up the off-grid solar system and didn’t miss a beat until July 2026, that’s 17 years. There’s a plug for Honda!

Following a couple of years of parking out in the weather and to minimise the apparent built footprint we constructed an earth covered garage and workshop.

For the most part it still feels like only two buildings on this land.

Our concretor, a farmer from Maldon known as 20mm Pat poured all of the concrete in all the projects...in his own time. We eventually got there and he also poured the natural pool that we built with Wayne and the Guseli crew.

Dugald and the team from Edifice Construction did a beautiful job on the poolhouse in 2016, offering a completely separate space, for family and guests to stay for short or extended periods. This was a gamechanger.

On site in Mount Martha.

The quality, light and character of the living spaces are beginning to emerge, with each space designed to maintain a strong connection to Port Phillip Bay. The curved roof & ceiling form is designed to create passive shading to the west, whilst ensuring the incredible views can be enjoyed year round.

Great work from the team.

From Jerry Wolveridge;

In 2006, we were invited to design a home on a piece of predominantly cleared but otherwise untouched agricultural land in Metcalfe, a quiet farming district just beyond Kyneton.

What we found was something rare - an elevated, completely private landscape where the horizon felt endless. It was a place that made you feel a million miles from anywhere.

After the planning application was lodged, the clients decided to sell the land. I purchased it from them in 2007, and some time later we worked again together on their beach house.

Across the next 20 years we shaped this place into the Hillplains House, then added a roof‑planted garage, the Hillplains Cottage and a natural pool. We planted hundreds of trees. Our children grew up here off the grid.

Life has shifted, as it does. With high school and life changes drawing us back toward the city, it feels like the right moment to say goodbye to the home we’ve created, loved and cared for over two decades.

Over the coming weeks we’ll share more images and memories from our time here.
