The first batch of 20 timber phone cradles has been sanded, primed and painted in our new colour, Ming Beauty. 💙

Meanwhile, the next 20 are already in primer!

Two pieces of timber, no screws, no glue, just a practical little product manufactured right here in regional NSW.

It’s amazing how quickly a small production run turns into another job for the workshop!

The joys of starting a small business! 😂
Buy the equipment, source the materials, manufacture the product, work out the packaging, calculate the margins, and then discover you have somehow created yourself another full-time job.
But hey, at least you're the boss!
No customers? No problem. Just keep producing and pretend it's all part of the business plan. 🤣

Seriously… can someone explain it to me? 👀

China is often described as a “developing” or “third world” country, yet it has an enormous manufacturing industry producing everything from tiny components to highly sophisticated machinery.

Meanwhile, Australian manufacturers are competing with those products every single day.

This isn’t about knocking China — there’s a lot we can learn from their manufacturing capability.

But the label just seems… outdated. 🤔

What do you think?

One piece of 90mm × 35mm timber.

Machined, shaped, assembled… then pulled apart again.

No glue.
No screws.
Just a simple little bit of woodworking that does exactly what it needs to do.

Sometimes the simplest designs are the most satisfying. 👌

This our Prototype premium compact coffee table, it’s ideal for small living areas, or use it as a bed end table, side table, it is stable enough to stand on and has been designed to travel. We designed this for young people who are starting out and want high end joinery in furniture that doesn’t break the bank. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Everyone notices the finish 👀

The colour.
The sheen.
The way the timber catches the light.

But the finish can only be as good as what’s underneath it.

Hours of sanding, easing edges, removing machining marks, checking every surface and making sure everything is ready before the first coat ever touches the timber.

You can’t hide poor preparation behind a good finish.

The boring part is usually the part that makes the difference. 🔨

Once this little wedge is glued and clamped inside the mortise, there is no going back, this is why mortise and tenon joinery is so strong, and why I keep using this method.

Why are there TWO blades on the spindle? 👀

Because sometimes the fastest way to get a precise result is to let the machine do the work.

Stacking the blades allows us to cut the tenon to the required width in a single pass — repeatable, accurate and ready for assembly.

No shortcuts.
No guessing.
Just a machine set up properly and doing what it was built to do.

And yes… there is something very satisfying about watching those tenons come off perfectly. 👀
