There are different types of teachers. Those who are teachers and have subject matter knowledge. Those that have subject matter knowledge and can teach. And then there are those professionals who have in-depth subject matter knowledge and know how to teach. After nearly 40 years in the industry, Gino knows how to work with timber, how to get the best out of it and what can't be done. He's taught apprentices in classrooms and he's taught our own apprentices. And now he teaches for the love of it.

If you've ever wanted to do some woodworking but you don't know where to start, Gino will teach you how to build a timber box in a day.

This is a one day beginners’ woodwork class. You choose the timber, you use the tools, you get to play on machines (we'll make sure it's safe!) and you go home with a box you made yourself.
By the end of the day you'll use hand tools. You'll use the machinery: the panel saw, router table and drill press and you'll learn Gino's definition of whether what you sand is really smooth enough.

You'll get to experience woodworking in a professional workshop with professional tools and machinery. You may love it and want to do more woodworking or you may just have a cracker of a day and go home and brag about how you built a professional looking timber box, all in one day.

Morning tea, lunch and your fill of tea or good quality coffee are included. Come join us. Build a Box in a Day with Gino and have a cracker of a day.

The last class this year is October 24. Link in the comments.

Whoever said books would go out of fashion when e-readers came about.....was wrong. Our clients love the physicality of holding a book and want to ensure their books are supported properly, for the long term. These classic jarrah bookshelves have brass pins and bushes to support the shelves. The shelves are adjustable and the brass pins and bushes are sturdy, strong and finish the shelves nicely. We use brass pins and bushes for all our adjustable shelving to maintain quality. Designed to hold books, books and more books; these shelves will last the test of time.

Can an absolute beginner make a timber box in one day? Our 4 Build a Box in a Day with Gino attendees proved that you very much can. A day in the workshop, using some hand tools, safely using some of the machinery and lunch thrown in.

In Matt's words: "I had an excellent time and my box has been fully oiled and is now complete, I’m very happy with the finished product. Thanks for the excellent day and lunch."

Congratulations to Angus and Jesse who received Gold and Silver place respectively in the Regional Canberra WorldSkills Cabinet making competition.

WorldSkills is a worldwide competition for trade apprentices and students. They are given plans for a cabinet, access to materials and basic machinery and their own hand tools. They have a limited timeframe to construct the cabinet and show their skills. All with an audience of judges looking on.

The competition tests their knowledge, hand skills, machinery skills, ability to work safely and ability to work to plans in a fixed timefame, under pressure.

WorldSkills is a highly competitive environment and Angus and Jesse have spent hours honing their skills for the competition. Angus as the regional winner will now go on to the National competition.

Of course noone learns without mentors. Gino, Griffin and up until recently, Tom, have been teaching Angus for the past 3 years. Jesse joined us in March and has been madly honing his timber skills.

Angus and Jesse have shown they have attention to detail, a willingness to learn and a drive to create quality work. Congratulations Angus and Jesse!

We love it when our clients are so happy they want to tell us in writing. Grace and Patrick wanted us to take care of everything including trades. It was a little bit of a tricky install being down the coast, but that's what we specialise in. Briefs where the client wants something different. Briefs where the clients wants us to go the extra mile. Grace and Patrick had talked to others, as many of our clients have. But they came to us because we could combine quality, sustainable materials with the skill and experience to design for them as people and their lifestyle and then put it all together for them. It was a pleasure Grace and Patrick, thank you.

At first glance this looks like a box of junk. A second glance shows they are piano keys. And another glance up close; shows the little black keys are actually ebony. Ebony is an endangered timber and we would not buy it new as it is often illegally logged. But we were gifted this box of piano keys. Once upon a time, Gino had a conversation about old pianos and piano keys. So if you ever have an old piano that is no longer viable, be sure to salvage the black timber keys. That black timber, if its solid, is likely ebony. Ebony is naturally black. So please salvage those black piano keys. Gino is now contemplating what he can do with the ebony. He'll think about it for a while and at some point, he'll decide what to do with it. The keys don't add up to a lot of timber, but Gino will find a way to give them a new life. Please think twice before you simply dump an old timber piano; the keys may be salvageable.

Just a little entry unit. Looks simple enough doesn't it? Simplicity can be deceiving. We'll reveal more soon.
