Why is it so important to correctly repair osmosis blisters BEFORE resurfacing a fibreglass pool?

Osmosis blisters aren’t just a cosmetic issue, they’re caused by moisture becoming trapped within the fibreglass layers.

Simply sanding them back and resurfacing over the top can mean the problem is still sitting underneath your beautiful new finish, ready to come back.

We correctly treat and repair osmosis affected areas before applying the new fibreglass membrane.

The preparation underneath your pool finish is just as important as what you see on top.

The existing fibreglass pool was showing signs of osmosis, with blistering visible across majority of the pool surface.

Osmosis occurs when moisture penetrates through the fibreglass surface and becomes trapped within the laminate. Over time, this can cause raised blisters, bubbling, surface deterioration and, if left untreated, further breakdown of the fibreglass structure.

Due to the presence of osmosis, we recommend a full fibreglass resurfacing treatment rather than simply repairing individual blisters or applying paint. The affected surface will need to be properly prepared, osmosis areas treated and repaired, and a new fibreglass membrane system applied to create a strong, sealed and long-lasting finish.

Bay Pool Interiors specialises in fibreglass pool resurfacing and osmosis repairs. Our resurfacing system is a fibreglass membrane, not pool paint, and is designed to restore and protect the pool surface.

We’re currently working on a pool in Echuca, Victoria that has a severe case of osmosis, as you can see in the photo.

Osmosis is a common issue in older fibreglass pools and happens when moisture works its way through the gelcoat and becomes trapped within the fibreglass laminate. Over time, this creates pressure beneath the surface and causes the characteristic raised bubbles, lumps and blisters.

At Bay Pool Interiors, we specialise in repairing osmosis and fully resurfacing fibreglass pools.

If your pool is starting to show bubbling, blistering or deterioration, getting it assessed early can help prevent the damage from becoming more extensive.

💧 Waterproofing complete on this project! ✅

Quality control is a big part of getting the job right.

Our waterproofing has been independently inspected and signed off by a waterproofing consultant, with wet film thickness measured throughout the application to ensure the specified coverage has been achieved.

Another important stage ticked off; independently checked, quality controlled and ready for tiling. 👌

Time for tiles! 🤩
