Sue’s had her place in Evanston Park for 18 years. Been renovating inside the home for a while and it was finally time to come outside.

The veranda was old, tired cement. Moss, mold, stained up. It needed a big facelift.

Cornelius’ place in Kingswood got the full package - epoxy in the sunroom, resurfacing on the concrete around the outside of the house.

He’d been repainting every 3 to 4 years and was done with it. Wanted something that would actually last.

“Very, very well done. Extremely thorough job. I could see much prep work that’s gone into both the epoxy preparation as well as the concrete. That was very impressive.”

We told him straight up his front render wasn’t suited for epoxy - even though other companies had quoted him for it. We’d rather do the right job than just any job.

Thickness matters more than most people realise when it comes to epoxy flooring.

Like proper surface preparation, the thickness of an epoxy floor is not exactly a detail that jumps out at you when the floor has been freshly installed.

But give it some time and a thin floor with less resin on it may begin to show issues.

Every epoxy system is designed to go down at a set thickness. Stretch it too far and you’re putting less material on the floor than the system was built for. That can mean shorter lifespan, less tolerance to rising moisture, less durability and, depending on the system, a higher chance of hot tyre pickup.

On this job we laid our self-priming epoxy at 2.5m² per litre, which is a heavy rate compared to a lot of floors out there. To make sure it actually went down at that rate, we did a few simple things:

✔️ Worked out the numbers first: 73m² at 2.5m²/L is just under 30L of epoxy

✔️ On open jobs like this we mix our epoxy in 6L batches. Coverage markers are placed on the wall to ensure that batch covers the specified coverage rate.

✔️ Used a notched squeegee to control the thickness.

✔️ Set out every mix ready to go so the crew could keep laying without guessing

Plenty of people say they’ve put epoxy on a floor. We control how much goes on.
