When did you start with McKnight & Bray?

2013 when we formed the company. Prior to that we operated as Brent McKnight Drafting Services which I started in 2002.

What is your role with the company?

Director, Designer

What is your favourite part of your job?

Visiting completed projects that we have designed.

Cricket, Golf, AFL, Water skiing, Camping, Fishing

A road trip to Berriwillock yesterday, and the crops are looking good! 🌾

We were on site at this beautiful old farmhouse for a proposed renovation and extension.

Our initial site visits involve walking through the home with our clients, discussing ideas and establishing a design brief, followed by a detailed measure-up to document the existing building.

It's an important first step in understanding the home, how our clients live and what matters most to them, so we can design a home that meets their needs for years to come.

The front façade is looking great, with the combination of brickwork, feature cladding and interesting rooflines really coming together.

More room for a small second home! 🏡

Victoria’s planning rules now allow small second dwellings up to 80 m², increased from 60 m², with attached decks and verandahs excluded from the size limit.

No planning permit is needed in most cases, and the extra space opens up more practical layout options. A building permit is still required.

Progress on site!

Great to see the exterior finishes coming together on this new home, with the overall design really starting to show.

The roof is on, windows are installed and external cladding is well underway.

Getting closer to the finished vision, with plenty more progress to come.

Do you really need a second living area?

For larger families, absolutely. For others, those extra square metres might be better used elsewhere.

Good design isn’t about ticking off a list of rooms — it’s about understanding how you’ll actually use your home and putting the space where it matters most.
