A market 50 years in the making!

A massive shoutout to everyone who came out to celebrate 50 years of The Channon Craft Market Inc. last weekend!

From humble beginnings back in 1976 to the buzzing market we saw on Sunday, this market has been such a staple of our monthly calendar.

A huge thank you to every organiser, stallholder, performer, volunteer and visitor over the last five decades for making it all happen.

Some exciting news to add to the overall awesomeness of Nimbin’s very first Fringe Festivals’ commitment to Sustainability. In collaboration with Rainbow Power Company, the Southern Cross Uni’s Sunflower Project , led by Dr Barry Hill, will power the Youth Tent. How cool is that?

Thank you to Matthew, Lizzie and the team at Rainbow Power Company for supporting this initiative.

Rainbow Power Company’s Recharge Lounge will be located in the centre of town and offers a comfy spot to rest your feet, relax and connect between the festivities. Recharge your phone using solar power and drop in for a friendly chat about solar, batteries and off grid living with your local renewable energy crew.

Rainbow Power Company also offers two EV charging options at their premises on Alternative Way in Nimbin. There are four slow chargers which are free to use between 10 am and 4 pm, ideal for topping up while spending time in town.

For those needing a quicker charge, they also have a paid Quick Fox fast charger.

We certainly do love where we live!

Our local volunteer-run nimBIN CHICKENS, a project of the Nimbin Neighbourhood & Info Centre & 7 Sibley St - Sustainable Living Hub, will be coordinating waste management throughout and after the festival.

To reduce single use packaging and our impact on the village, we encourage re-usable water vessels, coffee cups and food containers. Re-use kits complete with cloth shopping bag, silicone cup, food container and cutlery, an initiative of the nimBIN CHICKENS, will be available from the ticket office throughout the weekend. So if you forget to BYO, grab one while collecting your ticket at the Ticket Office in the Nimbin School of Arts building.

And while you’re there, check out the colourful public bench seats made from recycled plastic lids - each beam = 500 lids. That’s 5000 lids in every seat - 5000 times of taking the time to do the right thing! Check out 7 Sibley St - Nimbin’s Sustainable Living Hub on facebook for regular workshops and inspiration.
