Plenty flowering around the nursery at the moment.

We put a lot of thought into the plants we bring in, from familiar garden favourites to varieties you might not have come across before. Seeing them in flower is a good opportunity to get a few ideas for your own garden and find something you hadn’t thought of growing.

Come in and have a look around. We’re happy to help you work out what would suit your space.

Lots of new colour in store this week.

Fresh flowering stock and hydrangeas have arrived, along with a new range of Japanese maples that are ready to burst into leaf. Warm-season vegetables are also now available, including tomatoes, eggplants, chillies and capsicums.

If you haven’t been in for a while, there are plenty of new plants to pick from as we transition into our spring range.

Ferns and palms are arriving soon, with more spring stock coming in over the next few weeks.

Our annual grapevine delivery has arrived.

We have nine fruiting varieties in stock, eight of them seedless, plus the ornamental Glory Vine.

GREEN: Menindee (large and crisp), Himrod (golden and honey-sweet), Perlette (early-ripening), Sultana (sweet, fresh or dried), Thomuscat (aromatic Muscat flavour).

RED: Flame (early, crisp and sweet), Crimson (firm, sweet and late-ripening).

BLACK: Marroo (large, crisp and sweet), Black Muscat (rich and aromatic; seeded).

ORNAMENTAL: Glory Vine (brilliant autumn colour).

They grow best in full sun, trained over a trellis, fence or pergola. The fruiting varieties are self-fertile, so one vine is enough, with the first crop generally within 2–3 years.

These only come once a year and sell fast.

We have a great range of Proteas, Leucospermum, Leucadendron, Mimetes and Serruria in store right now.

Being South African natives, they are well adapted to the hot, dry conditions our summers bring, and many grow naturally in areas with annual rainfall similar to our own.

Interestingly, they belong to the same family as many of our Australian natives, including Grevilleas, Banksias and Hakeas, sharing common ancestry that dates back more than 100 million years to when our continents were still connected. Like other members of the protea family, they are well adapted to nutrient-poor soils.

Great for cut flowers and foliage, with Leucadendron and Mimetes in particular providing year-round, low-maintenance colour.

Larger plants are limited.

Our Geraldton wax are finally coming into flower.

An evergreen native shrub from Western Australia, Geraldton wax generally flower from late winter into early spring. They are frost tolerant, drought tolerant and well suited to coastal gardens. They are also widely grown as a cut flower, with blooms that last well in a vase.

They belong to the myrtle family, alongside eucalypts, bottlebrushes and tea trees, and share much of the same hardiness. Depending on the variety, they grow around 1–3 metres tall, with long-lasting flowers that provide an excellent food source for pollinators.

Most of the varieties we have in store are selections from Helix Australia, the global leader in waxflower breeding, with larger blooms, new colours and improved vigour compared with traditional varieties.

Our biggest native plant delivery ever is in store this week: 1,500+ plants across 250 varieties.

Grevilleas, banksias, bottlebrushes, Geraldton wax, hakeas, tea trees, melaleucas, kangaroo paws, eremophilas, adenanthos, native grasses, hedging, correas, croweas and many more.

If you’ve lost any plants to last week’s frost, most of these would make great replacements and be far better suited to the drier conditions forecast for the seasons ahead.

20-50% off storewide this Saturday and Sunday!

We don’t do these often. It’s been over a year since our last sale, and we’ve added a lot more stock on hand since then.

It’s a perfect time to plant, the way the weather’s been lately, and with more rain forecast next week it’s a good chance to fill up the garden with a lot less time and effort than through the warmer months.

Plenty of brand new arrivals this week too.

Two days only.

Look at the colour on these. Eremophila ‘Silver Flame’ just in!

Flowers open red and fade through to orange as they age, against silver-grey foliage that holds year-round. It reaches 60-80 cm tall and spreads to around 1.5 m, suited to groundcover and front-of-border planting in full sun.

Eremophilas are highly drought tolerant once established, and we currently have a wide selection in store alongside a strong range of other natives.

Protea nana now in stock, in 200mm pots.

Most proteas are bird-pollinated and hold their flowers upright so birds can land and feed. This one isn’t. The flowers face downward instead, deep plum-red, cup-shaped, and pendulous, hanging from the stems rather than sitting at the tips.

In South Africa’s Western Cape mountains where it grows, native mice climb up into the cups for the nectar. The downward form keeps the blooms within reach. The Latin name means dwarf, referring to the heads themselves, not the plant.

Grafted onto vigorous rootstock by Proteaflora, which makes it better suited to local gardens. Compact at around 1m by 1m, with fine pine-needle foliage. Full sun, well-drained acidic soil, frost tolerant to around −4°C, enough for an East Gippsland winter in most places.

Limited numbers, no restocks. Plenty more proteas and leucospermums in store. Drop in while they’re here.
