What’s your favourite colour in the garden?

I have so many favourite flower combinations. Popping blue with soft lilac, or pink amethyst with buttery yellow. But if I had to choose just one colour, it would have to be magenta. It’s bold, vibrant and brings such a beautiful energy to the garden. It catches your eye, draws you in and looks wonderful paired with all the flower colours in my garden.

These Byzantine Gladiolus are one of my spring favourites. Their rich magenta flowers are impossible to miss and the native blue-banded bees love them too!

I'd love to hear what your favourite colour is in the comments.

I had my first garden tour for the season here at Orcombe last week, with another two groups visiting over the next few days.

I always love sharing my garden with others and seeing people enjoy the spaces I've spent so many years creating. It reminds me just how much this garden means to me and how grateful I am to have created a place I love so much.

But there's something just as special about the quiet evenings at home, pottering around the garden with a glass of w**e and making the most of the extra day light savings evening light. So here's just a few of my favourite photos from this cloudy evening.

October has arrived and it's time to give your veggie garden a little refresh before planting your summer crops.

After a full season of winter vegetables, the soil in these beds was looking pretty tired and depleted. So before planting, I’ve replenished the nutrients, added minerals, composted cow manure and a soil wetter to help prepare the soil for the warmer months ahead.

Then I'm companion planting my tomatoes with basil and marigolds, and also planting some lettuce, cucumber and zucchini. Some of my favourite summer crops.

For more on creating a healthy, productive garden, you’ll find everything from soil health to companion planting for natural pest control my book The Complete Patch.

Comment BOOK to grow your best summer vegetables ever.
