The calm before the storm… the big shop reshuffle for Christmas is about to begin and I don’t feel as organised as I usually am. The vision is there but the details are still sketchy!

We are open today until 3pm and then closed until Wednesday. Wishing all you Melbournites a fabulous (unofficial) long weekend.

This sleepy little bunny, hand knitted from the softest alpaca wool, is almost impossible to resist.

This range is made for tiny hands to cuddle, little beds to snuggle into, and all those precious childhood moments that go by too fast.

My youngest just turned 17 so I’ve been flicking through old photos and remembering when my children were little. 😍 Seens like only yesterday!

It’s the end of October and that means Christmas window planning, Christmas merchandising, dance costumes to sew, multiple family birthdays, and a to-do list that seems to grow by the hour.

And yet I have the overwhelming urge to try new ideas! Today I’m drawn to this combo of colours and I’m itching to experiment with some paper and paint. ✂️🎨

Does anyone else find their most creative ideas arrive precisely when they have absolutely no time to do anything about them?! 🤦‍♀️

Surely I’m not the only one?

The new botanical collection by Studio ROOF is just fabulous. They come as flat packed recycled cardboard, printed with vegetable inks, and you simply pop out the pieces and slot them together.

Display a single stem or put together a bouquet. They make a great little “I’m thinking of you” gift and definitely pop on the list for the Kris Kringle or Secret Santa present list!

This is a portion of what may have been the most time consuming artwork we’ve ever made!

Every tiny fern frond was individually hand cut from paper with scissors, painted, and layered. And layered. And layered!

It was truly a test of our patience and our hand dexterity, but we think the result was worth the effort. Because every frond is slightly different, (just like the real thing) it has an organic feel that using machines would never give it.

Our artworks are a celebration of the beautiful intricacy of nature and the joy of making something slowly, by hand.

It has been so satisfying watching our little acorn grow in the clever Acorn Vase / ILEX STUDIO. First the roots appeared, then a tiny shoot, and now the leaves, and suddenly we have the beginning of an oak tree in our shop!

A lovely reminder to notice and appreciate the little things in life.

We have the Ilex Studio acorn and avocado vases in our shop if you would like to start your own little science experiment! 🙂🍀

Melbourne has turned in one of those beautiful spring days and this area of the shop, with its gentle patterns and texture in warm ochres and the softest blue, feels perfect for the season.
