7kW, 11kW or 22kW - which EV charger do you actually need? ⚡

One of the most common questions we get is whether it’s worth installing the biggest charger available.

The answer depends on more than the number printed on the charger.

Your actual AC charging speed is determined by three things:

⚡ Your property’s electrical supply
🔌 The EV charger
🚗 Your vehicle’s onboard AC charging capability

For many Australian homes, a properly designed 7kW single-phase installation provides more than enough charging capacity for overnight use.

If you have three-phase power, 11kW or 22kW may be possible - but your vehicle still needs to support those charging rates.
That’s why we assess the whole system, rather than simply recommending the biggest charger.

⚡ PROUD TO BE A myenergi PRODUCT CHAMPION ⚡

For me, EV charging has never been about simply putting a charger on a wall.

It’s about understanding the property, the electrical infrastructure, the vehicle, solar, energy usage and where the customer wants to go in the future.

That’s why I’m proud that Aether Installations is part of the myenergi Product Champion network.

The myenergi ecosystem takes smart home energy to another level:

⚡ zappi - intelligent EV charging with grid, off-peak and renewable-energy charging options.

🔋 libbi - intelligent battery storage designed to capture and deploy energy when it makes the most sense.

☀️ eddi - diverts surplus self-generated electricity into heating and hot water.

📡 harvi - an energy-harvesting wireless sensor that can simplify energy monitoring and installation.

And the real strength is how the ecosystem can work together through one integrated energy-management platform.

At Aether Installations, EV charging and EV infrastructure is what we specialise in - and being a myenergi Product Champion allows us to bring that specialist knowledge to customers considering zappi and how it fits into their broader home-energy setup.

If you’ve got an EV, solar, battery storage - or you’re planning for any of them - don’t just think about what you need today.

Build the infrastructure properly from the beginning.

Mitcham EV charger installation completed properly ⚡

This myenergi Zappi installation was completed for a residential customer in Mitcham with an existing solar and battery setup.

The charger was mounted on the carport structure in a practical location for daily charging, with the cable route run neatly through surface-mounted conduit and secured across the structure to maintain a clean, protected installation pathway.

This job included:

• myenergi Zappi 7kW single-phase EV charger
• dedicated EV charging circuit
• 32A EV charging circuit protection
• solar-aware CT monitoring setup where suitable
• surface-mounted conduit and mechanical cable protection
• weather-exposed installation considerations
• charger setup, testing and commissioning
• Certificate of Electrical Safety

The Zappi was selected because it supports multiple charging modes, including Fast, Eco and Eco+, allowing the customer to charge from grid, solar-assisted charging, or excess solar depending on how their solar/battery system is operating.

With solar and battery homes, the installation is not just about mounting a charger on the wall. The circuit protection, cable route, CT positioning, charger configuration and inverter/battery behaviour all need to be considered properly.

At Aether Installations, we treat EV charging as electrical infrastructure - not a plug-and-play accessory.

Clean routing. Correct protection. Proper commissioning. Licensed installation. Compliance documentation.

Power, Delivered Properly.
