We get emails and DMs like this almost everyday.
We want our begonia babies out in the world.
So here’s what’s been going on behind the scenes:
With the TPP biosecurity regulations that impacted interstate plant movement from Victoria, we had to assess what we could do to still trade effectively and compliantly. We won’t smuggle plants to risk our food security or precious biodiveristy.
Many of the chemicals and processes involved were simply going to kill or irrepairably damage our sensitive begonias.
Then when certain states relaxed their requirements, it was winter.
So we made some choices . . .we diversified: concierge, consulting, new products, market-only lines.
Begonias are still part of our future, but we’ve been taking the time to grow new propagations, including some never before offered species and hybrids. But these things take time and seasons.
We love receiving your begonia messages, as it shows you’re still thirsty. we appreciate your patience and support. We’re working hard to get new begonias online later in spring, so make sure to subscribe to our mailing list and add your details to waitlists if you have a favourite you’re waiting for - this helps us know what to grow and what to retire.
Good things are growing at HABIT.
