Roses and Spring go together across Victoria. Flemington race course has an amazing display of roses in November. This is not by accident but the result of consistent work across the seasons.
What you can do to maximise number and quality of rose blooms.
Roses do best in full sun and require a minimum of 6 hours sunlight per day. If you have a young rose in the wrong position move it in winter when roses are dormant.
From now through summer use specialised rose food or a balanced fertiliser as phosphorous and potassium are important at this time. Apply every four weeks or so. For an alternate use composted manure.
Water your roses deeply once or twice a week depending on the temperate and your soils ability to retain water. Do not wet the leaves as this encourages black spot.
Enjoy gardening.
