So, occasionally things don't go according to plan.

A bit of a tumble that has now been treated - arm and butt. A new pair of nicks will be required. Fortunately, and more importantly, (according to the team) the bike was not damaged.

Now on the 11am ferry to Sorrento.

Checkpoint 1 - Williamstown and Checkpoint 2 - Little River are done and dusted. Maurice Beinat is going well.

The next leg to Geelong is generally the scene of upturned bikes have their flat tyres changed along the expressway. Hopefully Maurice won't need to be doing that!

🚴‍♂️ AND THEY'RE OFF!

It's stupid o'clock, and Maurice has just headed off to tackle 220 km Around the Bay bike ride, with his trusty wingman Dave as support driver.

Dave has ridden Around the Bay with Maurice several times, so he knows exactly what he's signed up for. Which makes you wonder about his judgement. 😂

Maurice has done the training. Dave's got his back. Now all they need is a bit of luck with the weather, cooperative legs, no cramps and a generous tailwind.

Normally, I'd be the support driver, but this year I've been benched thanks to a total knee replacement. Apparently, having a new knee and consuming vast quantities of pain killers disqualifies you from driving - who would that thought!

So I'll be cheering remotely and posting updates from the recliner instead, where my greatest physical challenge will be reaching for the jug. 😂

Tomorrow morning, in the cold and dark, Maurice will get up at an entirely unreasonable hour, put on several layers of Lycra and ride 220 kilometres Around the Bay for Diabetes Victoria.

Maurice’s rider number for tomorrow is 5097. Purely by coincidence, $5,097 would also be a very pleasing fundraising total. At the moment, we are just over HALFWAY there.

If you have been meaning to sponsor him, now would be an excellent time. $10, $20 - whatever you can spare. Enough small donations will get him to that target while he gets himself around the Bay.

Maurice’s Around the Bay support crew is taking preparations very seriously.
Helmet: Securely fitted.
Cycling ability: Non-existent.
Moral support: Outstanding.
Understanding of 210 kilometres: Very limited, but if it includes treats, anything is possible.

The real Maurice rides Sunday week (18/10) to raise money for Diabetes Victoria - and you wonderful people have already helped him reach $1,791.
Our next goal is $2,500 by Sunday night.
Fifteen donations of around $50 would get us there, although absolutely any amount will help.

Maurice Is Riding 210 Kilometres

On 18 October, Maurice (the guy in our videos and Technical Director) will once again cycle 210 kilometres Around the Bay to raise money for Diabetes Victoria.  His target is $5,000, and at present we are well short of it.

So we are asking our broad and beautiful ecoMaster family: would you consider making a donation, even a small one?

In previous years, we have asked you to donate simply from the goodness of your hearts, and so many have. This year, we can give you something genuinely useful in return.

Maurice shows you how to understand your electricity and gas bills, investigate where your energy is going, find the guzzlers and compare energy plans using the way your own household actually consumes energy.
