Soap berries (aka soap nuts) are the ultimate natural laundry routine. They're berries that naturally create soap when agitated in water. 100% natural, and no plastic packaging! Simply compost the berries after 3-4 washes.

Live in Perth? BYO container to store and get soap berry refills at Urban Revolution 🫙

Using soap berries is easy:
1. Add 5-6 berries to a little cotton drawstring bag. Add a couple drops of essential oil if you desire. Tie tightly.
2. Put the bag in the drum of your washing machine with your clothes. Run on your usual settings (warm water tends to work better).
3. Let the berries dry after use. Use the same berries for 3-4 washes until thin and brittle, then compost them and switch to fresh berries.

Keeping our baby fruits protected without chemicals 🍑🐝

We have a range of fruit protection bags / sleeves in store, with different sizes available. Order from our website – or pop in store and pick up a few.

In addition to protecting your precious fruit from insects and birds, the sleeves also protect against sunburn. Made from very fine UV stabilised mesh (less then 5mm). The sleeves don't block light or air flow and are designed to be reused every year. 🍎🍐

Now's a great time to plant pumpkin seeds if you live in Perth. Plant now, and you'll be enjoying homegrown deliciousness at the end of summer and into autumn next year. 🎃

Here's some tips for growing pumpkins at home:

🎃 Grow alongside corn and climbing beans: a mutually beneficial trio often called "The Three Sisters"
🎃 Plant with flowers like borage, calendula and alyssum to attract pollinators
🎃 Feed well during the growing season
🎃 Avoid spraying foliage when watering as it can cause powdery mildew on leaves
🎃 Limit each vine to 3-4 fruit for bigger sized pumpkins (pinch off any others)
🎃 Grow up strong trellising, or if growing on ground, place a brick under the maturing fruit to stop it rotting
🎃 Pick when the skin is hard and stem dry, leaving 3-4 cm of stem attached

We have some gorgeous heirloom pumpkin seed varieties in store. Come pick up a pack or two, and get planting!

Also a great time to plant any cucurbits including zucchini, rockmelon, watermelon and cucumber. 🍉🥒

Plant pumpkin seeds now and enjoy homegrown pumpkin next autumn 🍂 If you store them well, you might even have a few to carve next Halloween!

How to make your pumpkin carving less wasteful:
🎃 Save the pumpkin insides for purées and hummus
🎃 After Halloween, coo the pumpkin in soups, curries & salads
🎃 Roast the seeds for a yummy snack
🎃 Carve the veggies you have on hand — doesn’t have to be pumpkin!
🎃 Decorate with food-safe paints or craft materials instead of carving

Buy locally made compost and your garden will love you for it 💚🌱 Many of the bagged composts you find at the big garden centres have been sitting on trucks, in the sun, in plastic bags for a long time — a sure way to kill all the microbes you want in your garden!

Our favourite WA made composts that we stock in store are: NutraRich compost and the composts and manures from The Green Life Soil Co. Fresher & full of all the good stuff.
