Senior Interior Designer Ash Bugge has joined our leadership team with a promotion to Associate.

“We’re delighted to recognise Ash’s promotion to Associate, reflecting her interior design capability, collaborative approach, leadership and strong client relationships,” said David Hillam, Founder and Design Director.

“Her contribution across projects including Harbour Sorrento has been significant, and she will continue the development of our interiors systems and processes while helping expand Hillam’s interior design capability.”

Hillam’s integrated interior design adds significant depth to our offering, particularly in our medium and higher density residential projects, and Ash is looking forward to an expanded role.

“Becoming an Associate is an exciting opportunity for me to contribute more broadly to the success of Hillam, with a strong focus on supporting our people, building a positive team culture and helping our staff feel happy, valued and motivated,” she said.

“I’m also passionate about promoting the value of Interior Design within the architectural profession and helping Hillam grow its interior design offering, creating more opportunities for integrated architectural and interior design projects.”

Hillam Architects is pleased to announce the successful development approval of Human Urban’s Ferguson Lane Project.

The opportunity to design a foundational building in the broader redevelopment of the Hollywood Village site has been exciting, particularly in terms of the interface and interaction with the public space and parklands planned opposite.

The inclusion of an outdoor yoga space and alfresco barbecue area strengthens this connection to the public realm.

We appreciate the unanimous support of the Metro Inner North Development Assessment Panel for our client, Human Urban.

Hillam Architects is pleased to announce Senior Associate Alex Jones (RIBA) has been promoted to Director, recognising his significant contribution to Hillam’s design capability, visualisation and client relationships.

Founder and Design Director David Hillam said Alex’s work on recent projects “demonstrates a strong ability to shape projects from their earliest stages and will continue to develop our design capability and project development across the practice.”

These projects include Claremont Terraces Stage 2, the Ferguson Lane proposal for H-U and a development application for a new project at Leighton Beach.

“I’m thrilled to be appointed as Director at Hillam Architects,” said Alex. “I’m proud that my passion for thoughtful, impactful design continues to help drive our work forward.

Congratulations again to Edge Visionary Living on their recognition at the 2026 UDIA WA Awards for Excellence, winning the Apartments (High-Rise) Category for Rivière Residences, and two finalist positions in Apartments (Mid-Rise) for Claytons Mindarie Beachfront and Broadway on the Bay.

Hillam Architects is proud to have worked on all these projects, providing solutions for increased density done well.

Congratulations to all the finalists and winners at the 2026 UDIA Awards for Excellence.

We are grateful to have received a Commendation in the Design Category for Broadway on the Bay, Crawley - crafted with careful consideration of both the historical built environment and stunning natural aspects.

We are also happy that Edge Visionary Living received recognition as winner of the Apartments (High-Rise) category for Riviere Residences and two finalist entries for Apartments (Mid-Rise) category for both Claytons Mindarie Beachfront and Broadway on the Bay.

All three of these projects have been fantastic achievements for our studio and we thank the Institute for a great night of celebrations for the industry.

We are pleased to announce Louise Ward has been promoted to the role of Director at Hillam Architects.

"Louise’s promotion recognises her leadership, technical capability, strong client relationships and involvement within the broader industry," said David Hillam, Founder and Design Director.

"Having led significant projects including Broadway on the Bay and The Gardens, while also contributing to business development, Louise will continue to strengthen client relationships, mentor our team and develop the processes that support the continued growth of the practice."

Louise joined Hillam Architects in 2021, the same year she was awarded WA Emerging Architect of the Year by the Australian Institute of Architects. As she notes, this is one of several milestones she has shared with us.

"I’m thrilled to accept this promotion to Director and excited to be part of the future direction and leadership team at Hillam Architects," Louise said.

"To be honoured and recognised in this way as I embark on my second parental leave is especially meaningful."

We wish Louise all the best during her leave and look forward to welcoming her back soon.

Hillam Architects supports the NAIDOC celebrations happening around the country as a meaningful opportunity to progress reconciliation and learn about our cultural heritage.

Last year, our staff attended exhibitions, education and language classes and we look forward to participating again this year.

We are proud to announce Rivière Residences was awarded Best Residential Development at the 2026 WA Property Awards this month.

The Property Council of WA presented the award to developer Edge Visionary Living, and representatives from Hillam Architects were honoured to be part of the celebrations.

Rivière Residences has been many years in the making, with Towers 1 & 2 reaching completion mid-2025 and Tower 3 due for completion in early 2027.

It was also deeply gratifying to see two other Edge Visionary Living / Hillam Architects collaborations recognised, with both Claytons Mindarie Beachfront and Broadway on the Bay named as finalists.

The amenities at Claytons Mindarie Beachfront make distinctive connections to the natural environment, by ensuring the view is incorporated into the common areas, as seen in these images of the casual lounge area. Elsewhere, the forms and palette of the beachfront is central to the design.

These decisions ensure equity for residents, ensuring everyone has access to the natural advantages of the site.

Shared amenities are premium features for our multi-residential projects, adding additional luxury home features for residents without the need for individual maintenance and upkeep.
