There’s a lot of outdoor fabrics to choose from. Each are constructed a little differently depending on the type of product and what they’re designed to do.

Acrylic fabric is primarily designed for shade, which is why it’s a popular choice for folding arm awnings and other shade awnings. It’s ideal if your main goal is blocking direct sunlight and creating a cool, comfortable outdoor area.

Fibreglass solar fabric is designed a little differently. It filters heat, glare and UV while still letting you see through to your outdoor views. This makes it great option for vertical systems such as external blinds. It also comes in a different levels of visibility to suit the look and privacy you’re after.

Neither option is better than the other—they’re simply designed for different applications.

Above all there’s a colour to suit every project. When you come to Soltex, we’ll talk through how you use your outdoor space and recommend the fabric that’s going to deliver the best result for your home.

Living in Perth, we know how quickly the weather can change. Our whole range is designed for coastal climates and built to handle the conditions here with ease. But when it comes to wind and strong gusts, a wind sensor can help safeguard your product.

The sensor can be discreetly installed into the front bar of the awning, or externally mounted closeby to continuously monitor movement caused by the wind. If it detects strong gusts, it automatically retracts your awning to prevent damage before it happens. This simple feature can help protect your investment and save you repair costs or replacement fabric.

Wind sensors are available on a variety of our outdoor blinds, and retractable roof and awning systems, giving you extra protection and peace of mind through Perth’s unpredictable weather.

If you’re looking for a shade solution that’s designed to handle Perth conditions, the Soltex team can help you find the right option for your outdoor space.

What makes fibreglass fabric such a great choice for external blinds? It’s a question we get a lot. There are a few different fabrics that work well for external blinds, but fibreglass really stands out — thanks to its performance, durability, and how well it handles Australian conditions.

Fibreglass fabric is specifically designed for external applications because it’s incredibly stable and resistant to wear. Unlike some other materials, it won’t stretch, warp, or sag over time, meaning your blinds continue to look and perform their best for years to come.

It also offers excellent protection from the harsh Australian sun, helping reduce heat and UV exposure while still letting through natural light and airflow. And because it comes in different colours and levels of visibility, you can control how much you see through the fabric — which makes it a great option whether you want to keep your view or you’d prefer more privacy.

That means you can create a more comfortable outdoor area — or dress your windows — without completely blocking your view or feeling closed in. And with the right level of openness, you can enjoy that view while still keeping the privacy you want.

So if you’re after an external blind that’s durable, low maintenance, designed to handle Perth’s conditions, and gives you control over visibility and privacy, fibreglass fabric is a fantastic choice.

Did you know you can get operable roofs that automatically close when it starts raining?

If you have a retractable roof or louvred roof system, you already know how great it is to enjoy natural light and fresh air whenever you want. But what happens if you’re not home and the weather suddenly changes?

That’s where a rain sensor comes in. At Soltex, our roof systems can be fitted with a Somfy rain sensor, which connects directly to your roof system. As soon as it detects the first drops of rain, it automatically closes your roof to help protect your outdoor furniture and entertaining area.

It’s a simple feature that gives you complete peace of mind, knowing your outdoor space is protected even when you’re not there. If you’re looking to create an outdoor area you can enjoy in any weather, speak with the Soltex team today and discover the right solution for your home.

There is a lot to like about a concertina style retractable system. The fabric draws back neatly to one end when you want open sky then deploy the system when you need cover – all from a remote or app.

We have all-weather or shade options, all made bespoke and designed for Australia's coastal climate. Whether your project is along the coast, a commercial venue, or an outdoor backyard, let our team assist you with a suitable system designed around the way you want to use the space.
